If you only use a couple of cubes that's one thing, just enough water to open up the flavor. If you use more than that you might as well drink the cheap stuff as it will be watered down.

 

CN's list is a good place to start. To that I would add Eagle Rare and Bulleit.

Yep...although the downside is that cooling down the whiskey will actually add a little bite to it. Room temp with a splash of water is better.

I agree totally with that.I treat scotch and whiskey the same way. In neither case should anything other than a splash of water come in contact with it. If you want any type of soda with it you might was well be drinking Jack Daniels.
