Working at a winery

Yup, I got myself a gig working the tasting room at Chrysalis Vineyard in Middleburg, VA. I had reviewed their Tannat previously and had noted that their offerings had started to grow up a bit. There is much hubbub about the 2007 vintage being exceptionally good although none of the reds have been released yet. I am very much looking forward to getting a peak under the covers and of course, the perks are pretty good as well.

Good for you.

Are you just going to take your pay in bottles?

I would but they actually want to give me money to do this. There seems to be plenty of wine in the offing though.

These folks have some pretty ambitious expansion plans not the least of which is a 200 seat restaurant and dairy farm and creamery to help support it. They've purchased a bunch of land, have the cows and have just completed the construction of the milking parlor so it is more than just talk. It seems like a good time to hook up with these folks.

Jimmy - One of my partners is headed to VA this weekend for some wine tasting. I gave him your info and a link to Chrysalis Winery. Not sure if they will be able to fit it in, but he was looking for suggestions.

Cheers!

congrats!

according to the website, the winery sees 1000 guests a week - that's a LOT of traffic. keep your head on a swivel.

hope you post your best Tasting Room stories here too. adding alcohol to the "general public" is an interesting endeavor and can lead to extraordinary results.

I'll post what I can. I'm coming up on my 1 year anniversary and my wife and I have decided that we are going to write a book and/or sitcom about this place. The chit that happens here is just unbelievable. People banging in the parking lot and the asst. winemaker high-fiving the girl on top while she's finishing? Yeah, that happened.

excellent.

at the tasting room next door to ours, a woman "put 'em on the glass" while outside having a smoke to get her husband's attention inside.

wine: more than a social lubricant.
