Kolb gets one-year extension

The Philadelphia Eagles have given quarterback Kevin Kolb another vote of confidence, extending his contract by one year, the team announced Thursday.

The deal is worth $12.25 million, all of it guaranteed, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Kolb, who became the Eagles' starting QB when Donovan McNabb was traded to the Washington Redskins, was previously under contract through the 2010 season. He was expected to attend a news conference announcing the signing at 4:45 p.m. ET at the team's training facility.

"We're happy to have Kevin under contract for the next two seasons," coach Andy Reid said in a prepared statement. "When given the chance, Kevin has proven to have good command of this offense and we're looking forward to having him operate as the No. 1 quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles."

Kolb spent his first three seasons with the Eagles behind McNabb, but stepped in when McNabb was injured in the season opener last year at Carolina. The 2007 second-round draft choice promptly became the first NFL quarterback to throw for 300 yards in his first two starts.

His emergence made McNabb expendable, and the No. 2 overall pick in the 1999 draft was traded to the Washington Redskins earlier this month for a pair of draft picks.

That's a lot of cheese.

The whole ordeal with McNabb and him being in a Redskin jersey is freaky...and for Eagles fans and the organization to push Kolb so fast and to trust him so is just as freaky, to me. I know you have to go one way or the other and pick a QB, but sending McNabb inside the division to WASH is crazy and gums up the whole transition for Kolb and the Eagles. Now Kolb will be compared to McNabb all to easily.

yeah, but this kid is way too confident...no, he's been way too confident since day one..and when he plays, he takes chances and isn't afraid to deliver the ball in a risky spot to test the defense...

I have only really watched him play the Saints and Chiefs, the Saints D at the time was playing pretty well and the Chiefs D flat out stank..

however...he still managed to light up two NFL defense's in his 1st two starts which is something that even Aaron Rodgers didn't do...however he did play the Vikings and they held him under 100 yds passing...but he then lit up the Lions for 328 and the Cowboys for 290 - so he came very close with his following two starts which I find to be more comparable at the time to Kolb's first two starts...match-up wise anyways...

with the offense that he's in and the fact that he's in a pass 1st offense, I can see Kolb up for a Pro Bowl spot - provided he can stay healthy...he'll just have way too many opportunities not to produce numbers..
