Favre need surgery?

Let's see, surgery now means he'll miss minicamps and OTAs. Probably a good 8-12 weeks of recovery before resuming "football related activities." That puts him at the start of August, and then you don't want to rush him back so he probably doesn't rejoin the team until after they break Mankato... or right about the time he did last year. It's almost like it was planned; if there's a 12th doctor around the operating table, you'll know Chilly was involved.

RT @injuryexpert: Favre ankle 2010=Favre shoulder 2009. Neither a big deal if he actually wants to play ... On Werder's Favre/ankle report.

In retrospect, I have to think the Vikes knew about this problem and that it is not a big deal if he has surgery. They also probably have a good indication that he is going to do so and come back. No way they toss a possible Championship season on the shoulders of Tarvaris Jackson.

does anyone else find it odd that the surgery is schedule to take place in the Caribbean? In a private resort that purposefully has no communication and 20 foot high walls around the resort and 50 yards into the ocean.

No that would be Tomy Romo.

Ugh...tell me the Vikes wouldn't like that 2nd round pick back now...

OK...who replaces him if he does not go? It won't be the guys on the roster. Has to be a trade. Vick? Orton?

If Vick or Orton are the other options, I'll take Sage and Tarvaris.

You know if they found themselves in a tough spot, with Favre opting for retirement, they could probably trade for JaMarcus Russell pretty cheaply...

Couple of us at work were talking about that earlier this week. We are going to need a DT to take Fat Pats place eventually...

Outstanding post - excellent read on the situation. That this is news that was broken virtually assures that Favre will be back this year. He's found his plausible excuse to miss OTAs, and training camp.

The question is if this is the year his skill set erodes and catches up to his age...

During the regular season we all say that Brett is too honest and needs to develop a filter.(i.e. when he got into it with Chilli and then told the world about it.) Then the offseason rolls around and he's the master manipulator doing whatever it takes to get out of training camp. Which is it!?

The fact is everyone in the organization from top to bottom has stated ad nauseum that Brett could hop on the plane en route to the Superdome and be the starter week 1.

From the STrib

Q. Some people will say this is being done so Favre can skip the Mankato portion of training camp. But you've made it clear you don't have a problem with him skipping that portion, right?

A. "Yeah, I don't have a lot of illusions about the timing of the thing. As I mentioned to you, way back when, there was no manual back then and he played at a high level. How much does he need? He knows. I've got a ballpark idea of how much he needs and obviously what he got last year was plenty."

Q. How comfortable would you be with Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels as your top two quarterbacks going into the season?

A. "I think I've said before, it is what it is. Obviously, we didn't make a move and we're going forward with the guys that are on the roster right now."

If it hasn't gone by now, I'm not sure it ever will. I will say though, that I see a lot of teams stealing the Saints gameplan against him and hitting him every chance they get. Clean hit, late hit, cheap hit... Whatever it is, I think we'll see it from a lot of teams.

And before Ed Hoyle comes crying, I'm not rooting for late hits on the guy, I just think that's what you'll see.

Is it seriously your position that Favre doesn't leverage and manipulate his position during the offseason despite all the evidence over the past what - 5 years? You're speaking to a guy who adores Favre - the guy is a giant in the game and always will be. But the offseason crap? He's earned that rap, and he's done it all due to his own actions.

It would be my position that Yes, he has always done that. But explain to me what position exactly, is he trying to manipulate? Team ownership, coaching staff, all the players and pretty much the whole freakin' state of Minnesota has said..Dude, whenever you're ready, come on back. We don't care, just come back! He may have certainly earned that rap, all due to his own actions, even when it has no merit. And you're speaking to guy who has always hated Favre, still does, and always will.
