Infinity
It's not just the NFL, but all sports. From Tiger Woods to Ray Lewis to John McEnroe. Players and owners do whatever they please. Getting minimal court sentencing, never in any real "trouble". It annoys me. Edited May 1, 2010 by Infinity

Don't get me wrong, I think Tiger's a freaking d-bag but, last I checked there's no law against that. What did McEnroe do?

I'll be honest, I'm the first person to say things aren't a huge deal and shouldn't matter. But when there's murder, drugs, etc involved and "oh no i have to sit out for a game or two" that's not really a punishment at all... You're annoyed that sports stars don't get in real trouble when they break the law (which frankly is something very worth being annoyed by) but then you mention three guys, one of which is "just fun and out of control", one of which cheated on his wife (again, not a crime). I'm not going to touch the Ray Lewis thing because I have no idea whether he's a guilty guy who got off or was truly in the wrong place at the wrong time. So, no comment there. I was just saying Johnny Mac because he is known as someone who does his fair share of partying etc. When it's something small, i don't really care. I just said 3 names really. But when Ben is walking around with his private parts hanging out and all he gets is a 6 game suspension that is when things start to bother me. Tiger, did something that is not illegal, but he is a huge sports icon, hero to many, and he represents many companies. His penalty did and should come from his sponsors and family. When there is a serious crime involved, a DWI, manslaughter, Rape etc....give them a punishment that matters. Don't take $250,000....that's barely anything to these guys. Don't suspend them for a few games, or even a whole season. Get rid of them completely. If i was the Rooney's, Ben would have been dealt by now. But again, money matters the most. Interesting you included Woods and McEnroe as your examples...last I checked, they were pretty clean in terms of legal issues. If cheating on your wife gets you lumped in with all the dirtbags, then it aint just the rich and famous that should be a part of your rant. Riffraff
Throw in a Super Bowl winning Head Coach to see if he gets off clean. Sean Payton allegedly stealing Vicodin. Better find some jurors out of state if it goes to trial.

BeeR
OK, so now I'm confused. You're annoyed that sports stars don't get in real trouble when they break the law In fairness, no, that's not what he said, tho a part of it obviously. Sounds to me like a broader issue of being disgusted with how popular sports figures (or sports figures in general) get off lighter than they should with if not illegal then at least "poor" behavior (we can play words games w/that all day, but you know what I mean) and seem to be more and more at the dirtbag/loser level in general. Which I agree with 110% - but it's spitting into the wind.

Which I agree with 110% - but it's spitting into the wind. That doesn't change the fact that he picked rather odd examples. Well, certainly Johnnie Mac at least. However, think about Tiger Woods. He, by no means, "got off lighter" than he should. For starters, since he actually didn't break any laws, he shouldn't be subject to any real punishment. And, by virtue of his celebrity, he had his dirty laundry aired for the entire world. Not saying that it was unfair or that we should leave the guy alone, but if you or I went on some spree of adultery, our friends and family would hate us for it and that would be the end of it. Certainly being Tiger enabled this behavior, but to say he's getting off lighter is foolish. Dude is being dragged through the ringer. Even those who want to see him back out on the course aren't condoning what he did, they're just separating the fact that he's a gifted golfer with the fact that he's a dirtbag. After all, golfing is his job and one shouldn't be fired from one's job for committing adultery. But the shine is certainly off and he's going to have to do a ton of work to salvage his image and possibly his career. He's been greeted back with anything but open arms. And listen, I'm as sickened by this BS as the next guy. I'm inches away from just turning in my fan-card because I'm not sure I want to waste my Sundays watching a bunch of derelicts on TV. I was simply amused with his choice of examples, and more so once he admitted that one of them was just sort of a joker and a partier. MTSuper7
I would argue that Tiger Woods is getting it worse because he is famous. Most cheating husbands don't have to face the paparazzi, then go to work in front of a national audience with their every action under scrutiny. Plaxico Burress also comes to mind as someone who probably got off worse because he is famous, though maybe with him it's just perception because we were all surprised that he actually did go to jail. And then there's Donte Stallworth...
