untateve
My wife got a stoneware baking dish at a pampered chef event. She and I have a disagreement about its use. She will bake chicken in the dish at 350-375 degrees. However, when she takes the chicken out of the oven, she will not put the dish on the stove top because she says that the heat from the oven warms the stove top and the dish will crack from this heat. I respond, "Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot?" "Dear are you aware that the oven is 350 degrees and I can rest my hand on the stove top indefinitely because it's only a bit warm?" Her response is "yes." She then puts a hot pad down and puts the baking dish on the counter so that it won't crack.
Bier Meister
i don't put my cooling pans or dishes on the stovetop- not to avoid cracking- but to cool it quicker because, as you noticed it still gives off some heat. i do not believe your dish is in danger. rajncajn
Actually we had one crack last year after taking it out of the hot oven & placing it directly on the cold granite counter top, so there is some merit to what she's saying she's just got it a little wrong. They probably told them to do that at the party.
detlef
Your wife allows strangers to lock your children inside a storage ottoman, so it's not like I'm going to find much at all surprising. Just sayin'.
