Big Ernie McCracken
http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2010/08/ja...warner_awa.html There will be some juice on this team and a lot of it will come at a discount. :thinknig:
dula14
Olsen is probably the Bears best receiver at this point, and Martz would be smart to properly utilize him. Unfortunately, MM has never shown a willingness to use his tight ends effectively.

This guy is a hand-in-glove fit for Mad Mikey's vision of an offense. I don't foresee "Greatest Show on Turf" numbers coming this season unless Knox really blossoms - which is a possibility - but there might be some really surprisingly good O numbers coming out of CHI (and that includes Forte, who ought to benefit from the wider running lanes and deeper LB stances, his receiving ability which Martz ought to utilize out of the backfield, and that Taylor will help out with quality touches). BeeR
"What we do really fits him," Martz said. "He has that Kurt Warner awareness, if you will. He has such a keen sense of where everybody is at." Now if only he could actually throw it there. PS God bless BB working McD in there.

Is Olsen really going to go from Cutler's favorite target to almost completely out of the offense? How do you not utilize Olsen as a WR in numerous sets? Inquiring minds want to know. Seahawks21
This could be a bit of a chicken/egg argument. Does Martz choose to not use TE's, or has he never had a TE worth using? We shall see. The thing that always stood out to me was the up-and-down nature of his slot receivers. Knox is going to have some humongous games this season, and have a few where he is non-existent, even more so than normal speedy, inexperienced slot guys. Bronco Billy
PS God bless BB working McD in there. I just don't understand how you trade away a young QB with that many physical gifts, especially given that he's smart as hell. SD did it with Brees, but they had Rivers waiting in the wings. That's going to leave a stain on the DEN franchise for a long long time.

It must be the dumb look he always has on his face. Management just said: "Damn he looks dumb."
hooknladder
.....Martz will utilize the weapons he has....(regardless of position) -just like any NFL coach does.

Then why in the Seven Hells was McDaniels hired. He not only looks dumb, but he looks ghey too.

Pip's Invitation
Brees signed with the Saints as a UFA. Same idea, though. They could have retained Brees but they chose not to.
Avernus
Same idea, though. They could have retained Brees but they chose not to. it would have been a dumb decision unless they wanted to move Rivers....especially when they draft Rivers early in the 1st... too much money in a position where only one player hits the field.... Pope Flick
I personally do not have faith in the offense with the winds of Lake Michigan whipping around come November/Decemember but that's just me...
Square
I personally do not have faith in the offense with the winds of Lake Michigan whipping around come November/Decemember but that's just me... I hear ya, but it's not like Mile High is some easy place to throw a spiral. Cutler has a gun of an arm. I question his head sometimes, but I'm sold on the dudes ability to throw a bullet. bushwacked
He had Vernon Davis. +1 I won't be drafting Olsen this year. Vernon Davis immediately came to mind also. But Davis had 2 seasons before Martz got there and hadn't proved to be anything more than an great athlete who couldn't put it together on the field. Comparing Davis to Olsen with Martz coming in is an apples to oranges comparison IMO.
loaf
VD came to mind too but didn't Martz get the boot halfway through that season?
