shotgun72
Anyone have any info on this kid? Reports out say he has amazing skills. Did anyone see him play in his first preseason game and if so how does he look? I did see some footage of him while he was at Cal. Amazing highlights. Just wondering if he can bring it to the pros. tazinib1
Jahvid Best rushed six times for 29 yards and added one reception for nine yards against the Steelers in Saturday's preseason opener. Best was heavily involved during the Lions' first three drives. We counted just one play where he wasn't on the field, and he even stayed in for two consecutive goal-to-go plays at the 2-yard line. Highlights: He turned a potential 4-yard loss into positive yardage on third-and-one, and he used his 4.3 speed to beat the defense to the corner on a 15-yard gain. All in all, a promising debut. -- Rotoworld
budlitebrad
Just watched some of the 1st quarter. Best looked good. Great burst, good hands. Â Lions didn't look too bad overall. I'll say 5 or 6 wins based on their schedule.

BeeR
GB August. Â Best is injury-prone and their OL is still iffy. Boom/bust so worth a shot but probably not for what he costs. Edited August 15, 2010 by BeeR
kpholmes
Best is injury-prone and their OL is still iffy. Boom/bust so worth a shot but probably not for what he costs. Â As a Cal homer, I will tell you - Best is one of the most explosive players to watch on the field, but if he is overused, he will drop like a fly. He is too undersized to be a premiere back, and needs to stay under 20 touches a game to keep himself healthy. Â All gonna come down to how he is used by the Lions. Â With very little other options in the running game for Detroit, I can't see how he lasts more than a few games... Â He should be good for September though... dirtdickens
College stats arent a 100% safe indicator as to how someone will do, but as a college football junky and Best fan I have to say I agree with the Cal homer  -He got KO'd multiple times -Against anyone with remotely any defense(sorry Cal fan) he got stopped cold. -He needs to play a role, I know at the combine he was 200lbs, but that is with missing the last month+ of the season and him bulking up. Think his playing weight goes back down around 185-190lbs.  I dont know if the Lions have the support this year for him to be used correctly. Egret
The Lions need him to keep the other team's defense honest. If there's an explosive player in the backfield, teams will need to commit more players to the run. That helps give more chances to Calvin, Scheffler, Burleson and Pettigrew. The Lions have some moderate depth in the backfield for the first time in a long time. Best has looked good and seems to be improving. I'm very interested to see how he does in the next game. I think Best is good and will help the Lions. I just don't know if a serious impact on the football field will mean he is a serious FF player. Having that kind of speed will help CJ and the receivers and he has the ability to hit a homerun, but does that mean he will? I've always been excited that Best is going to play for Detroit, but I think the hype is going to fool some FF players into expecting too much out of a small fast back playing for a mediocre team that may be playing from behind a decent amount of the time. Just my 2cents.
