Well just found out i have the second pick this year which has got me thinking a lot about the top 4 backs. All of them are really talented and no brainer first picks. Provided the number one pick is CJ im getting AD and being a Vikings fan i will be thrilled. However i am trying to prepare myself for the chance that AD goes first and where i will go from there. This has brought me to start looking more closely at these 4 backs. It seems all 4 have pretty nice playoff schedules. What are most people thinking about the top 4? in non ppr 1 pt 10 rushing/rec and 6 tds. I know this possibly could be in the advice forum but im trying to generate more of a conversation.

1A. Chris Johnson

1.B Adrian Peterson

3A. Ray Rice

3B. MJD

Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson are both workhorses on teams with talent around them. Jones Drew doesn't have talent around him. You also know CJ and AD are going to get the ball in the redzone. With Rice, you don't have that luxury.

Outside the box time! And yes, I expect my random bashing from this, but oh well. I'll try and give some reasons to my madness.

1. Michael Turner - Healthy with a healty QB and no real RBBC to contend with. There are also no real receiver core other than AJ and Gonzo so they will opted to check down more often than not to Turner. They also said they want to get Turner the ball in the air more so they have big plans for him this year.

2. AP - He's 2 only because of the return of Farve and I think Gerhart will take some goal line work away from AP. Farve also likes to check down to his tight end on a regular basis versus running the ball so Shainco will benefit, but AP will suffer. But alas, still solid numbers.

3. DWill - This is where I'll get flamed, I'm sure. Williams is a hard core runner and even with the likes of a solid number 2 in Stewart, I see a healthy DWill getting close, if not more of the same of his 2008 numbers.

4. MJD - He's a solid little Hercules, but he still plays on a crappy team. He will get numbers but if they don't shore up that offensive line, there are going to be some injuries and or he will be ran into the ground.

5. CJ - Explosive back and yes, there is no White to take the goallines but they went out and wanted to get a shore fire backup with a Ringer and Blout and I think they will use. I see his touches going down and drastically in comparison.

I didn't put Rice in the top 5 which he was close but McGahee will be Rice's Achilles. McGahee is a freaking mule on the goal line and they will continue to use him in that role which will sap substantial TD's away from Rice. McCalin never was an impact to Rice so if they keep him or trade him, I don't see that much of a factor. Gore moves to about 8 or 9 on my RB depth chart with the addition of Westy and how well Dixon has performed during the pre-season.

Edit to add. This analysis is based upon a non-ppr league setup.

Great read. I must say i am also a big fan of turner this year. I feel like possibly trading down and taking him. He seems to be great value at 5 or 6 and if i can get an extra pick id be ahead of the game. DWILL is such an explosive talent. He is a complete back. He has all the tools to put up major numbers. I am hoping he is a guy that can fall but in reality to land him you need to be at the back of the draft. Last year i drafted dwill at 5 in part because i had him in a championship run the previous year. I was able to land Stewart as well so i wasn't completely hurt by DWILL'S performance last year. However Stewart is a presence and will get the goal line carries. It happened all of last year and i don't know if i can handle that again. I would much rather draft Stewart in the fourth and get some great value.

I am such a vikings fan im just not sure i can give up the chance to have AD. First and foremost i want to win, but a year of ridding your favorite teams workhorse seems to hard to pass up. I hope it doesn't come back to bite me in the ass.

Actually (and I'll need to track this down), even though Stwewart is better built for goal line carries, I think the split for goal line carriers was some where in the ball park of 55/45. Stewart is better up the gut but Williams is better on the outside and also for the option. Williams just has monster cut ability which humbled his ability last year with that knee injury. The knee is in great shape and he's look spectactular this pre-season.
