JUMbotron
http://twitter.com/JuddZulgad 1:28 AM EST Tuesday 8/24 Last specialist was just after minicamp. RT @P_Singh_D: @JuddZulgad when did he see those 2 specialists who suggested surgery? less than 20 seconds ago via TweetDeck . Rice saw 3 specialists this offseason, 2 said surgery would be a good idea, he didn't have the surgery. That was his decision to make. 2 minutes ago via TweetDeck Sounds like Sidney Rice could miss first half of the season with this surgery. 32 minutes ago via TweetDeck
Dont Rookie Me........
This seriously blows!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had him as my #1 receiver. I was the 4th pick a 12 team PPR redraft and MJD fell to me, then Breeze fell to me in the 2nd I jumped at the opportunity figuring Jennings or Rice in the 3rd. Not even sure I can make up that difference I was relying heavily on some consistent output from this young man!

i_am_the_swammi
via today's Minneapolis Star Tribune: Rice's hip examined; surgery seems likely By JUDD ZULGAD, Star Tribune Last update: August 24, 2010 - 6:14 AM Wide receiver Sidney Rice was at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., on Monday to have his injured hip examined and it appears likely he will undergo surgery, according to people with knowledge of the situation. Surgery would be expected to sideline Rice for at least the first half of the season. Rice's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and Vikings officials did not return messages Monday night. Many professional athletes have undergone surgery at Steadman's clinic, including former Wild star Marian Gaborik, who had his hip repaired in Vail in early 2009. Rice had been on the physically unable to perform list since training camp opened because of the injury he said he suffered in the Vikings' overtime loss to New Orleans last January. A second-round pick by the Vikings in 2007, Rice had a breakout performance last season with Brett Favre as his quarterback. The 6-4, 202-pound receiver caught a team-leading 83 passes for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns and was named to the Pro Bowl. He added 10 receptions for 184 yards and four touchdowns in the playoffs. Rice and the Vikings have not divulged exactly what was wrong with his hip, or which side has been bothering him, but he did say during training camp that the issue impacted his ability to cut and get in and out of breaks. Being on the PUP list means Rice has not been able to practice, but he has been doing plenty of running on the side while his teammates go through drills. Rice told reporters he felt "a little bit of pain" when he goes full speed. "I actually went pretty hard today," he said on Friday. "... I came in and got a couple of routes with my coach [George Stewart] after practice. Just going to see how it reacts to that." There has been a belief throughout camp that Rice also was not rushing back because he was unhappy with a rookie contract that is due to pay him $550,000 in its final season. The Vikings and Rice were not believed to have had any discussions about an extension this summer and that could have caused him to not want to take any risks by playing without first having surgery. Not even sure I can make up that difference I was relying heavily on some consistent output from this young man! I hear that, I have the 4th pick in a ppr this friday and if this stud WR isn't there it puts even more of a premium on finding a solid WR1 in the 2-3 swing. Take Rice out of a mock, back things up and I'm thinking if AP, CJ, MJD go 1-2-3 I may seriously consider AJ at 4 now instead of rice/gore. The fact that the Vikes are willing to look at Javon Walker of all people just shows how desperate this situation is getting. Lucky it's still August... Square
Where would that put Berrian? Decent WR2? That sounds like a pretty big leap for a guy that has never shown to have any chemistry with Favre. I'd draft him late if you want to take a flier and hope for WR3 production. SeductiveNun
Why do people draft before the pre-season is over? Because that 4-5 day window between the last preseason game and the season opener, within which falls Labor Day weekend, tends to be a rather difficult time to get 12 guys together for a draft, particularly if you're in multiple leagues, and many of us have families who we take vacations with over Labor Day as well. And anyone drafting Rice early should have been extremely concerned with his hip injury prior to drafting him. This is not something that just goes away during the preseason. I looked at it as the same type of injury NHL goalies get, and that pretty much costs them half the season as well. Just saying, do you're homework before hanging your hopes on a player with a nebulous timeframe for his return, and also one who put off surgery for months when 2 doctors already told him it would be necessary. BeeR
Why do people draft before the pre-season is over? Because they have lives and it's the only date that would work for all owners? Harvin is fine now right? Yeah I think Berrian is worth more but not a ton even now - it's Harvin and Schiancoe all day for Favre, and dump-offs to Peterson I guess, who surprised me in being able to catch last year. JUMbotron
http://www.thehuddle.com/nfl/player/8298/ Posted: 8/24/2010 9:46am et Vikings WR Sidney Rice has had the hip procedure that could keep him out for half the season, reports Chip Scoggins of the Star-Tribune. Huddle Up: Scoggins tweeted: "Received short text from Sidney Rice confirming he had hip surgery. Rice said it went well." Now we're waiting to hear the official timetable but it won't be good. Bernard Berrian and of course Percy Harvin will move up the rankings. Greg Lewis enters the picture as the No. 3 receiver.
Scooby's Hubby
I cannot say this loud enough "CRAP!" Is he worth keeping for later? I have others to fill in my WR3 role and could stash Rice away for later if he will be able to play when he is recovered. Please advise. MTSuper7
So does Harvin move out wide to fill the void left by Rice? Or is some other scrub starting out wide to keep Harvin in the slot?
