delfamdelfam
thoughts on this guy? MSW broke out last year but now he is the #1 and Thomas gets to go against the #2 CB. If MJD gets hurt they start throwing the ball more to. last year he had 48 receptions, 453 yards, and 1 td in 14 games, the crazy thing is he only started in four of those games. At 5'8" he plays like Welker and in a PPR league I feel like he is worth a 14 round pick with the upside to get you 80-90 catches, good for a WR3 in the 14th round. ABearWithFurniture
Pretty much why they call it Fantasy... Seriously, if what you are saying is correct then Jack Del Rio pretty much would have to change his entire offensive strategy...I think Thomas has some good upside, especially if you are getting him in the 14th round, but I think he'll be lucky to have 40-45 receptions this season. delfamdelfam
why do you think 40-45? He only played in 14 games and only started in 4, you'd think his numbers would go up and not down like you say if he moves into the WR2 role. Henry Muto
I am very high on Mr. Thomas. I traded my 2.09 rookie pick just now to land him. I now have him on all 3 of my dynasty teams. I think he is the next Steve Smith (Carolina version).

Well, for one thing Jacksonville is built around MJD and their main philosophy is to run the ball...everything else is pretty much fringe as far as the skill players. Garrard has got a pretty decent arm but he can get them into trouble if he tries to take the game over. If they establish any kind of lead through the running game that's pretty much it, there's really no need to throw the ball. Thomas will have some good games but in others I think he'll totally disappear, pretty much like Sims-Walker last year. 40-45 balls is probably the low end, but I can't see him getting over 60, even being the starter and number 2 WR. delfamdelfam
but do you really think their going to have that many leads?
Deathpig
The bigger issue is that the last 3 years the Jags have averaged arond 500 pass attempts a season and never had anyone catch more than 65 passes individually. It's not like they've been a winning juggernaut in that time period, either, so that includes playing from behind.
rattsass
I like him as a player. I mean, you plug him in with the right system and I think you have something. Just limited upside at his current location though. Should beat his draft position, but I don't envision him being "special" in fantasy terms unless his situation changes. j2v
I've been beating this drum all offseason, for all the reasons spelled out in the June sleeper article as well as his showing this preseason (which led Mike Sims-Walker to say even he thought Thomas would have a breakout season). More than just talk: Thomas is on every single one of the six teams I've drafted thus far. I anticipate numbers that will make him usable as a WR3 or flex, which would certainly be nice from a guy I've been getting in the double-digit rounds. 2V
Capt. Stanky
I like Thomas as a player, but I have to agree that he is going to be held back due to his situation. The only way I see him being a viable option is if he overtakes MSW as the #1 option in the passing game. He would also flurish if MSW gets injured, like he has in past years. I think he's a decent late round flyer, but I wouldn't expect too much.
The Irish Doggy
Good sleeper candidate. I have him on one team. Late in a draft, I'd rather try to pick an up and comer like Thomas than a has-been veteran.

If he doesnt pan out, no real loss (obviously).
piratesownninjas
Why is it... every short receiver... every white receiver... every slot receiver... Gets the Welker tag? I can see the McCluster hype due to his ability, but people are going insane. Thomas isn't the caliber, and for those saying Jordan Shipley is similar to Wes Welker need to do some fact checking. No where near the same build/athletic ability.
