Bad choice of analogy, but considering no one knows Dan Hampton, I doubt much will be made of it.

Danimal is one of the most famous Chicago athletes of all-time.

He held a signing at a grocery store in Niles, IL (a suburb of Chicago) and a thousand people showed up.

No disrespect to a HOFer, but I'd guess maybe 1 out of 10 people would recognize the name outside the greater Chicago area.

Probably not the best choice of words for someone in the work enviornment, but stupid crap like this is said on a daily basis. He shouldn't be fired.

Yeah, I agree. It was a stupid statement, and it should be called out as insensitive, but let's not go crazy and fire someone over it. Not every misdeed or mistake warrants that we take an axe to split a hair. Society can't have that thin of skin.

911 and Katrina were completely different. Can't compare the two.

Just an example bro! Do you think the out cry would be different - either way 1000's of people died. The sad part is this isn't the first time he has referenced Katrina -

I found this comment under a Chicago Jan 2007 article about the guy with the "Finish What Katrina Started" sign.

"When Dan Hampton finished his comments on the WGN Radio pre-game program on Sunday, I was horrified when he referenced Katrina and how the Bears should beat up the Saints in the same manner that the storm had whipped New Orleans. Now, I'm embarrassed as a Chicagoan and a Bears fan to think that mindless thugs at Soldier Field behaved so horribly towards visitors to our city. "

Meh. I live here in New Orleans and grew up in Chicago watching Hampton play. Really doesn't bother me at all.

The thing I question is what game films Hampton has been watching? Wondering if maybe he took too many shots to the head during his career?

Seriously - so what?

Players use terms like "going to war" and being "soldiers" all the time. If you're offended by the Katrina reference, how can you not be even more offended by guys playing a game comparing themselves to those who are willing to - and then sometimes do - offer their lives for the defense of our country? (BTW - the military comparisons don't bother me either, FWIW).

It would sure be nice to see this country decide to act like grown ups again and not look for any and every occassion to be offended.

And the 9/11 comparison to the results a natural disaster was pretty poor.
