Does anyone know for sure if the eagles plan on using Hobbs as their primary kick returner? i can pick him up in my league and we get points for return yardage and i think hobbs will be a great db if he returns kicks/punts? Thanks

I feel for you bud. It seems like trying to find out teams primary kick and punt returners is classified information. If you find a good site or information let me know.

According to Yahoo's depth chart, he's the only guy listed as a kick returner, and he's listed as a starting CB.

I'd like to know about Josh Wilson along the same lines now that he's in Baltimore. He's nowhere to be found on Yahoo depth chart, I don't know for sure if that's because he a 3rd string CB and returner, or if Yahoo just hasn't updated the chart since he joined the team.

Here's my list of the top few DB's who return kicks. To be honest, this is a compilation based on information from a number of sites/sources, so it's not just one site that I rely on (and for that reason, I'm not providing links). The other thing to remember is that KR duties are often times shared, and some teams have yet to officially "announce" who their primary return guy will be. Also, obviously, DB's who return kickoffs tend to be much more valuable than those who return just punts (so I didn't include any who return punts only).

Hobbs - Starting cornerback and primary KR for the Eagles.

Arenas KC - Nickel back and primary KR and PR for the Chiefs. I also think he's got a chance to be special... a defensive version of Dante Hall, so to speak. So, even though he isn't starting, I have him at or near the top of this list, simply to to his play-making ability.

D. Manning CHI - Starter and primary KR for Chicago, although he may share that duty with Knox.

Wilson BAL - Nickel back (who might start early in season due to injuries)... May not do as much in the return game if he starts, but once he moves back into nickel back position, I expect him to be a factor on KR's.

Jones CIN - May not play much on defense, but he's going to be the primary KR, and could return some punts as well.

P. Cox DEN - Odds on favorite to return both KR and PR in Denver.

Owusu-Ansah DAL - Backup safety, but he's talented enough that he'll see playing time on defense... He's also the top KR in Dallas, and should see some PR's as well.

W. Blackmon GB - Not a starter, but will return both KR and PR.

J. Leonhard NYJ - Starting safety that has kick return experience (although he may or may not this year).

D. Moore CHI - Not a big contributor on defense, but given that the other two KR options (Manning/Knox) are both starters, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him return some kicks at some point during the season.

Blackmon was cut with an injury settlement.

Actually, I feel bad for him because he is down to looking for kick/punt returners to fill WR and RB spots. Teams do not announce who will be returning punts until right before gametime. Almost the same with kickoffs.

If you are looking for a CB that returns kicks then look to the past. Defensive players have more job security as returners than do WR/RBs. Rookies and non-starters usually handle these duites and coaches do not announce permanent return men during pre-season/training camp.

You can find another site that will tell you Josh Brown for Seattle, but then you will be pissed when you find out that he does not have return duties anymore. Noone really knows until close to game time. After the season starts, then there will be more chatter from the head coaches about their teams' return schemes.
