CardinalEmpire.com
With every mainstream sports news site getting in on fantasy football, I'm wondering if more astute observers have opinions on the track records of these guys. I'm an admitted miser when it comes to fantasy football... I don't play in high-stakes leagues and I'm 99% unlikely to ever pay for the premium content of a fantasy site. The game is about fun IMO... it just isn't THAT big to me (not better or worse, just a fact). So having to rely on these pundits at CNN/SI, ESPN, etc., has anyone paid enough attention to decide if any of these guys really know what they're talking about? My one example, while not directly FF related, is Peter King. He picks the weekly game scores for CNN/SI and, from what I have gathered, is pretty much awful at it. If he calls a shootout, it will end up 10-7. If he thinks two teams will slog it out Sunday afternoon, it will wind up 38-35.

MustOfBeenDrunk
by the way when does the regular season start anyways ? I'm getting real tired of this preseason crap
MustOfBeenDrunk
This is the best site around and if you don't want to spend 50 cent per week for the knowledge then you get what you pay for ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, as in my replies

CardinalEmpire.com
Insightful stuff, fellas. Another one I just thought of... Eric Kuselias. He does position rankings on ESPN and is consistently the outlier for any head-scratching ranking. Example this week... he has Anquan Boldin (likely matched up with Revis) as a Top 15 play this week. Addai Top 10.
wildcat2334
good gawd enough with the azz kissing, I pay for the huddle, but this ain't brain surgery fellas............ honestly I think the dudes at ESPN - Harris, Karabell do a pretty good job. The 2 guys at CBS aren't bad either
piratesownninjas
I think there are more than a handful of guys on the boards that are just as good as any pay site or massive company like ESPN or CBS. I pay for the Huddle's premium content, but as I said, I think there are guys on here that are just as knowledgable. I use the premium content as a tool, but in the end, I make my decisions. Every writer is going to burn you from time to time, in turn, they'll also be spot on from time to time.
Rovers
Honestly, none of the "national" FF writers are worth anything. Eric Karrabel leads the charge in clueless drivel. Fact: I could name at least 10 Huddlers who are better than any of the "nationals". I don't include pay sites like this one in that category. So, I won't single any of them out or others from pay sites, although I do for a fact have much more respect for most of them over the so called "nationals". Having said that, I don't think I've ever seen a single ranking or projection where I didn't think to myself "What in God's name is this guy smoking?" That is just the nature of the beast however. If I did my rankings here, some peole would For instance, I like Addai this year, and especially against Houston this week. Boldin is a bench for sure, given I might have a TO to pug in instead. Definitely a matchup play.

BeeR
So having to rely on these pundits at CNN/SI, ESPN, etc., has anyone paid enough attention to decide if any of these guys really know what they're talking about? As pointed out, you don't "have" to rely on these goofballs, and no, most if not all of them do not. Said it before but I wish the mainstream sports media would give it up already. My one example, while not directly FF related, is Peter King. He picks the weekly game scores for CNN/SI and, from what I have gathered, is pretty much awful at it. And what a shock that is. He'd fit better at Cosmo or People mag vs sports. He looks like Norm from Cheers but reminds me more of Niles from Frasier. I think I think I like Starbacks tee hee

Clubfoothead
The pregame shows are pretty solid with letting you know if your questionable player will play or not. Probably no better than the web but I'm watching them anyways.
WaterMan
I would completely disregard any projections from the media. They are too lazy and only go by trends or past performances. The media stations are probably required to talk about 5 certain players every week.

The media stations are probably required to talk about 5 certain players every week. how does that make any sense? If you are to lazy there is no way you are going to bother looking for trends or at past performances...fwiw, the early part of seasons are the hardest to predict because you only have historical trends and performances to look at versus using those plus the current seasons trends, performances and additonal info....I ranked over 330 IDP players this week and I surely knew I was going to make some mistakes but I can guarantee you that there was thought and reasoning that went into each and every ranking...I can't speak for everyone but I feel pretty safe in saying that if someone is putting out rankings they are spending a hel1 of a ton more time than you realize to come up with them. WashingtonD
The nice thing about rankings is that they can be statistically evaluated....of course rankings aren't the end all and be all of most sites offering, but they are a useful tool for the players. In week 1 Yahoo's team of projectors did a pretty good job across the board in their rankings, but among free national sites Fantasy Sharks actually was most consistent across all positions. Most of the ESPN guys fared pretty poorly, with TMR Matthew Berry absolutely tanking in the WR category. You can check out the scorecard of all the national sites at www.ffadvisor.com WD Edited September 15, 2010 by WashingtonD

Shaman
I have not "heard" or "followed" any "national" FF writer for the past 4-5 years. To be honest I back what Rovers said. Huddle writers are well versed and you have some dudes on the board that really know what they are talking about. And the biggest and most wonderful reason, you have other dudes that are completely funny and crazy or both. I do have membership on 1 other ff site that I like as well but I don't use their forum.
