Greene?

What in the hell is Rex Ryan thinking? Your 1st play to your basically best and newest RB, where it's already established that he is not that great of a pass catcher, is a pass? Talk about trying to set someone up to fail, what a f'n joke. That was not Greene's fault...they should have gave him 5-10 carries and let him get some momentum and confidence, and then maybe feed him a screen or short pass.

Ryan and Haley must have the same playbook...

As a Greene owner in one league, I'm not overly concerned. He'll need to do a better job of taking care of the football. I didn't see a hell of a lot from LT that would make me think that he'll ever be ready to be a primary RB again, but he fits nicely as a strong complement to Greene.

It's week 1. Greene will shake this off. He looks like he might be a superb buy low right now, though - especially if an owner went QB/WR early and was depending on Greene for substantial contributions at RB.

This was foretold in the Huddle's excellent article "Players To Avoid in 2010." I'm not a "week one panic guy" but since I have held the belief all along that Greene was being overdrafted I am going to advise that Greene owners go ahead and panic. This is not a drill.

Really.... A professional football player in the NFL who is in his second year needs some babying??? I MEAN ALL THIS GUY DOES IS PLAY FOOTBALL 24/7. You know it is his JOB!!!!! OH poor Green needed an ice breaker,,,, maybe a nice pat on the head from the other team... this reeks of there are no winners and losers anymore in grade school.

One dump off pass is setting someone up to fail.... wow

There were articles during training camp about how badly Greene catches the ball...he stated Rex was kidding him about how bad his hands are. So it just seems to me that you would want to instill confidence in your players, especially one who is still basically a rookie, by playing to their strengths, and not their weaknesses on MNF in front of millions of people... wow

I do not share your optimism. All the talk leading up to the game is that it will be a committee backfield. I was skeptical about that thinking LT just didn't have much left in the tank. I thought LT looked great last night. He showed more burst than he had in SD the past 2 years. I think Greene is going to madingly inconsistent early on this year. Since he also doesn't catch passes I wouldn't feel comfortable starting him. I do think he will gain steam as the season rolls on though, making him a decent by low candidate, but his value might drop a bit more in the next few weeks.

A pass to a guy who notoriously sucks at it is, at least, not exactly a brilliant way to start things off.

My point which a few of you have such a hard time grasping is that I didn't think it made sense to put the guy on ice after a couple of early mistakes, significant though they were. Obviously this isn't the kind of team that can ride Sanchez's arm to victories and while LT was respectable enough, totally ignoring Greene was totally stupid.

Notice they inserted Greene on the last very crucial drive. As he lined up in the backfield I noticed his eyes, he looked like he was somewhere else. He dropped a gimme pass and was promptly benched for LT again. Maybe he sucks as a pass catcher so it was a bad play call, and maybe we should expect rust after he was benched for so long, but his demeanor in that spot is more of an concern IMO. Rex sure as hell isn't going to stick with a guy just because he's the presumed #1 back, if he's not a gamer and makes stupid mental mistakes.

Ball security was a VERY big issue in the preseason. Fumbles are THE reason why McKnight won't be active on game days for the foreseeable future. The CS has been SCREAMING about fumbles all preseason. I'm not surprised at all that Greene was sent off for some splinters. Heck, one of his fumbles was caused when he ran into his own lineman.

Greene was sent a message. Don't fumble kid. He'll be back next week, and will get more carries than Tomlinson, that is unless he fumbles again.

As far as passing to Greene, they worked on that all off season. The first one worked out pretty well, what was it, a 12 yard gain? That was done with purpose, to keep the Ravens front 7 honest and giving them something to worry about on the outside when Greene was in there. The second one, the one he dropped, was not why he lost playing time. It was the 2 fumbles. If Greene can ctach a couple of balls every game, that should only help him to run inside more effectively.

I thought LT looked great last night.

2-3 decent runs behind last year's number 1 rushing attack is great? He looks to me like he's lost about 6-7 steps. 90% of his runs went for a yard or two where he kinda tried to fall forward into the pile. His forte for the evening seemed to be trotting 5 yards past the line, turn around, and get pissed because Sanchez wouldn't throw the ball to him with the linebackers sitting over him.

3-4 more games should about do it for him...

Yup. I think Turner is toast too. Oh, wait... didn't Turner go up against one of the best rush D's in the NFL? Hmmm... maybe I'm wrong about Turner because he got shut down against PIT.

I think LT is going to be a good addition to the Jets, as a 3rd down/COP type back...but clearly he can't handle a full load anymore.

I agree. I was happy to land him in two leagues around the 10th-12th, felt that was great value. I like him as depth/bye week filler but I hope I don't have to start him late in the season.
