Brett, please retire!

Brett, the time has come for you to take of the shoulder pads for the last time and fire up the tractor for the rest of Fall. You used to be a QB who could lift crap like Antonio Freeman, Bill Schroeder, and Javon Walker to WR greatness. You were playful and brash, and even when you frustrated us, you took us to new level of inventiveness at QB. You are one of a kind.

Or were one of a kind. You had a great year last year, no question. But Father Time has caught up with you. You can still throw a rocket, but the mind and the arm just don't quite mesh like they used to. You can't turn guys like Greg Camarillo into superstar WRs any longer.

It is with this in mind that I beg you to retire. As much as I like seeing the Vikings lose early and often, it's painful to watch what is happening with you out on the field. Minnesota can lose just as many games with Tarvaris Jackson at QB as they can with you. By God, Brett, your QB rating after 2 weeks is worse than Trent Edwards, Jake Delhomme, and Shaun Hill.

It is with only admiration in my heart, despite your donning purple for over a full season now, that I beg you: Get out. Stop. End your career now before it gets too unbearably painful to watch - even when it is happening to the Vikes.

 Grew up in Wisconsin, then also took on the Broncos when he moved to Colorado and Shanahan finally installed a running game for what had been a winning but woeful franchise.

The Packers are my wife. The Broncos are my mistress. I can kick the mistress to the curb, but the wife always remains...

Please. Guys. The memories are priceless. He took us to the mountain top and delivered us from the wilderness that we were lead into by Forrest Gregg and Dan Devine. He returned Titletown to Green Bay.

The last thing I want to see in his career is getting benched for freakin' Tarvaris Jackson.

Quit Brett. Get the last laugh on the Vikes. Stick it to them one last time.

I agree with this. There is no way he'll call it quits until the end of the year though which is unfortunate.

Oh, if the team keeps losing and Favre keeps playing like crap, I would expect his ankle injury "acts up" and "forces" him to the bench....or "sources" will leak that the ankle really has been bugging him all year and that's why he's sucking nuts.

Well, if he sticks it to the Vikes, then he won't be able to stick it to Ted. Decisions, decisions.....

It just doesn't look like Brett is enjoying the game right now. When they show him on the sidelines, he doesn't look very happy or even ready to play. This is before a single snap was played yesterday. I wish I knew what was going on. Does Chilly have him on a short leash? Does Favre know that the game plan is for him to hand off to Adrian. I agree that any other QB on the roster can put the ball into Adrian's hands just as good as Favre can.

But he didn't have two great games to start out last year either.

The first game last year was against Cleveland. The Vikes had 85 net passing yards. They won the game with 3 Adrian TDs including the one where he ran over a defender and/or pushed him out of the way.

Game two was against Detroit. The Vikes had 153 net passing yards. Against Detroit. 153 passing yards.

Game three was the SF game where the Vikes pulled it off on the final play and game four was Packer week. Aaron Rodgers was sacked 8 times in that game while the old man was not sacked in that game according to pro-football-reference.com.

I think that as the weeks go by, the Vikings' passing game will become a bigger part of the game and game plan.

 you're another bill swerski. have a few "favorite teams" laying around, and always profess your first love to be the one that happens to be strongest at the moment.

let's see, you either picked your handle because you're the kind of guy whose mistress means more to you than your wife. or maybe because you picked your handle back when your "mistress" was winning back to back super bowls.

This is exactly what i was thinking. He hobbles around the training facility and misses a few practices and tearfully announces that the ankle isn't responding to treatment and he's going to have to "shut it down."

it's possible, and if it happens there will probably be some truth to it. recall, just last year he was whupping the pack twice and have a pretty nice season throwing the ball.

Maybe, maybe not. I said that '07 was his last best chance to win a SB in Green Bay; it all came together.

Traded to the Jets and everything was hunky-dory with an 8-3 record and Favre playing EXTREMELY well. Then he shat the bed down the stretch and this whole "oh, my arm was bothering me" story came to light.

Then a few offseason manipulations to get to the Vikes later, everything is hunky-dory again, and after two games, it wasn't as if Favre was tearing it up - yeah, he was accurate (38-50) but he was playing Checkdown Charlie (279 yds)...but hey, the Vikes were 2-0 and he wasn't making killer mistakes (0 int). '09 was probably his last best chance to win a SB anywhere.

Tough loss in the NFC title game, and the injury excuse is in place PRIOR to this season.

Thinking ahead pays off.

I just wonder when he does retire and go into the Hall of Fame does he go in as a Packer or Viking or Falcon...He seems to hate the Pack and I too wish he'd hang them up...It's like watching your old hunting dog dying, he wants to retriee but he just aint got the legs to run anymore...

or in the season with the jets, maybe he DID hurt his shoulder and that explains why his play tailed off so drastically. and maybe he actually DID injure his ankle against the saints in the playoffs. I know as a jilted ex-lover you'd rather stick with the conspiracy theories, but occam's razor pretty much rips that old prom dress to shreds.
