BeeR
INDIANAPOLIS -- Bill Polian says the 18-game NFL season is a done deal. During Monday night's weekly radio show, the Colts team president called it a "fait accompli" and said the debate is over. Polian is a member of the league's competition committee and has worked in the league office. He's concerned that getting rid of two preseason games to expand the regular season from 16 to 18 games will cost coaches and team officials opportunities to evaluate rookies. The solution, Polian says, might be hooking up with nearby teams for combined practices or controlled scrimmages. League owners and the commissioner have expressed support for an expanded regular-season schedule, but have not said a decision has been made. JUMbotron
I have mixed feelings about 18. But it does seem inevitable after hearing Roger Goodell speak a few weeks ago.
Mark5
Maybe when they go to an 18 game schedule we will finally hear the last of the 1,000 yard rushers/ receivers crap.. Getting 62 yards a game does not get you a big contract.. Make it 1500 yards NOW and 1600 when they add the two games.. If they can survive the whole season
Bronco Billy
This is a bad, bad idea. It's also going to give the players' union some serious leverage in contract negotiations. This falls well into the "be careful what you wish for"/"Path to Hell is paved with good intentions" category.

The owners will have to concede giving the players more money and increasing the roster sizes so that more players are in the NFL. Seems like a win/win to me. You do understand that the players already get an obscenely large piece of the pie, right? That's the main sticking point rigt now. The owners gave in during the extension of the CBA a few years ago to avoid a work stoppage and gave away too much. Now they intend to rectify the mistake and hold just about all the cards, including one very powerful one in that whether there is a work stoppage or not, the owners still collect TV revenues. The owners have the players by the short hairs this time around.
