keggerz
Seems like there are those that take concussions seriously and those that think they are no big deal. What is your stance and why?
Grits and Shins
Too many concussions turn brain matter into mush ... why would anybody take that "lightly"
Caveman_Nick
I posted my comment before they said it was a concussion. I'm not planning on apologizing for it. Concussions are bad, M'kay? Let's have a poll discussing why people follow football, play Fantasy sports and post on fantasy sports message boards. I do it for fun, and sometimes that involves making a witty comment regarding a player.

piratesownninjas
As someone who has had 3 documented concussions and get migraines because of said concussions. No laughing matter. 1. Car wreck 2. Snowboarding into a tree 3. Jarvis Moss
joeyb7
I can't say that there are any rules that have been instituted to protect players that in my opinion make the game "lame" or "wimpy". While a lot of us view players as mere commodities in fantasy leagues, the truth is that for every injury that occurs there aren't only "owners" that are either pissed or excited by an injury, but more importantly families and loved ones that are affected. I don't look at past players as being more manly, but purely the victims of old helmet technology and lax rules. I'm sure that well after all of us are gone medical advances will show more and more that repetitive hits only make players brains more mushy as the years go by.....all in all I'm all for more rules to protect players. PPIchamp
I've had two myself, any kind of brain injury is no joke. Got a pretty nasty one playing backyard tackle football, no helmets or any protection of course. I got picked up completely off the ground and thrown down head first. Knocked me out cold, I was randomly dizzy and nauseous for weeks. Got a second one 5 years later in a car accident, a more mild concussion than the first. I'm in the passenger seat of a CRX, we're stopped at a crosswalk, and a small pickup drills us from behind, threw me headfirst into the windshield. A concussion is when your brain wacks into the inside of your skull....is that bad? What kind of question is that? hehe Edited October 4, 2010 by PPIchamp
Valhalla
They're absolutely serious and I'm glad the NFL has put more stringent qualifications to play after suffering one...
matt770
Yes they are to be taken seriously and it's not debatable. Google "post-concussion syndrome", "concussions dementia", or "concussions Lou Gehrig's disease". Concussions can cause everything from migraines and ringing in the ears to debilitating diseases and death. Bravo to the NFL for starting to take them seriously, but it's still a violent sport and the players understand they are putting their health and longevity on the line every time they suit up. PPIchamp
I'm pretty fortunate to not have any lasting consequences from my concussions. I don't get headaches outside of the ones brought on by too much caffeine, or after fits of my Irish temper flaring up. I get a little minor tinnitus action once in a while but I think that's more a result of my 18 year car stereo hobby that the concussions. I do have a spotty/weak short term memory, but I think that is more a hereditary condition that concussion related, I have family members who are the same way. No, I've never smoked Josh Gordon. heh
MustOfBeenDrunk
Depends ,, if we are talking about someone else's kid than no big deal If we are talking about my kid than heck yes it's a big deal and nothing to play with. Get my point ? it's always a lot simpler to answer when it doesn't effect you or your family directly IMO

bpwallace49
I have head post comcussion syndrome before, and it os scary as hell/ Concussions are a BIG worry. Mike Ditka madea great point. When guys had leather helmets, concussions and hits in general were not as violent as they are now. Now football players are gladiators that put on a suit of armor (including the weapon of a helmet/facemask) and no longer hjave any fear when hurling into someone at full speed. Concussions are now much more of a problem as the players get bigger/faster/stronger . . . .
Hugh 0ne
My orthopedist told me that if you would go into a High School locker room after a football game, and ask 30 kids how many of them had headaches, if they told the truth it would be upwards of 10. When dealing with the brain, things should not be taken lightly.
half_hennessy
I have been knocked out several times playing rugby and atleast four of them I was out cold. I do suffer from alot of headaches now because of this so from my standpoint it is good to see some measures in place to stop these guys being able to go back in after being concussed or knocked out because I know I played on alot of times when I shouldnt have but that would never have stopped me back then

kingfish247
Seems like there are those that take concussions seriously and those that think they are no big deal. What is your stance and why? Wear and tear, over time, on the joints and the cumulative effects of hitting to the head is one thing. An awkard fall or a weird cut causing a season or career ender is one thing. But most vicious hits to the head can be avoided and should be. I fail to see how guys having their careers cut short, missing games, and quality of life for them and their families significantly diminished based on avoidable contact 'the game'... and by extension the players, owners, their families, and fans. rocknrobn26
In Butkus' book, he told a story about the infamous "Dr. Fox". He said the guy was a sadist (twisting and wiggling the needle needlessly whilst draining fluid from the knee). Injuries back then were considered wimpy. "Suck it up", "Don't be a broad", "What are you a baby", and on and on. Those were words my coaches used and I'm sure they are mild compared to pro coaches. Suffice it to say the old owners, coaches, et al, treated the players like live stock and not human beings. Thank God they are finally taking injuries seriously. YES, concussions are serious. Did anyone notice Cutler initially walking to the wrong side line? I didn't see it, but it was in today's paper.
keggerz
honestly, this poll is pretty retarded (or fill in proper pc term here) here are some quotes from another thread about concussions (removed names so as not to make it about anyone in particular) and from the looks of them some people don't take concussions seriously. Concussions are nothing, too much being made of it. We are too soft these days. Concussions are no more dangerous to the game then Flozell Adam leg whips. I do agree that concussions can be very serious. But for many cases its just a concussion and its harming the game, the stories of some are not above the game. yeah, this kid's a pvssy. the above quote here was with regard to a player that suffered a severe concussion I do understand the concern over the players health, I just feel like that comes with the money and playing the game your whole life. keggerz
and one more (couldn't add another quote to the above post) I don't buy the "concussion" excuse. He was performing horribly prior to that hit. He's crying and whimpering in the corner of the locker room right now and blaming everyone but himself for his terrible performance. All of a sudden, as he saw a doctor walking by, he said, "Hey doc! My head hurts. Will you come look at it?"
