Will Steve Smith be effective when he comes back from high ankle sprain?

High ankle sprains are bad news for people how live and die on their cutting ability. Having said that what do people think his value is when he comes back? The CAR passing game is a train wreck so even if he does come back in a couple weeks will he even produce?

I was just exploring this topic myself since I have Smith on my roster and need to decide what to do.

While what you just stated is a huge factor in his fantasy value, his schedule doesn't bode well for Smith owners either.

He is likely out for week 5

Bye in week 6

week 7 vs 49ers - 20th against the pass

week 8 at Rams - 21st against the pass

week 9 vs Saints - 11th against the pass

week 10 at Buccaneers - 10th against the pass

week 11 vs Ravens - 1st against the pass

also throw in the Rookie Clausen slinging the ball around and I am almost considering dropping him outright just to shake things up in my league.

I think I would much rather be playing against Steve Smith than having to actually start Steve Smith.

Does this make any sense? Am I jumping too conclusions too fast?

I'm just about to trade him straight up for Bowe while I have the chance. The panthers look putrid on offense and while that schedule isn't horrible Clausen is a rookie. Look at what the Rams did to Hasselbeck and Carolina has to travel to STL.

Ive been thinking about this as well. I have Roddy at the top of my WR corps but after that I get kinda shallow. Was hoping Smith would be my #2 but it doesnt look good. I had Nicks but ended up packaging him in a deal to get Ray Rice. I have Bowe and Mike Williams so Im hoping they will be able to pick up the slack.

Steve Smith - WR - Carolina Panthers Posted 10/6/10 3:36pm et

Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 6, according to Panthers.com.

Huddle Up: CBSSports.com reports Smith is on crutches. It must be a nasty high-ankle sprain. At this point you have to wonder if Smith is even worth keeping on fantasy rosters.

My sentiments exactly. I dropped him for Brandon Tate. Within minutes he was picked up by another owner in my league. I asked why and his reply was he needed a bye week filler for week 8. LOL, he's playing me that week. Hopefully I will have the last laugh.
