Minnesota fires coach

I've never started a topic in here before and this one is likely seen as completely irrelevant by most but it's fairly unusual to fire a coach halfway through the season in college football. The performances of the teams sent out by Brewster really gave the University no choice though. Defeat is one thing, sheer embarrassment is another.

The search for a new guy for this poisoned chalice begins.

New stadium they likely expected more. However Minnesota is and will likely remain a lower Big 10 football team.

New Stadium is huge. There is reason to expect more. Brewster is just not the guy. No consistancy. He's had 4 different offensive coords in 4 years. Adam Weber has a lot of talent at QB, but he's making the same stupid mistakes this year as he did as a Freshman. No development, and that is ALL on Tim Brewster. They took a huge gamble on this guy when they hired him, and they lost. His only head coaching experience previous to that was High School. He got a bunch of credit for recruiting Vince Young to Texas. Yeah really, Vince probably had a longhorn pacifier stuck in his mouth as soon as he came out of the hole.

Hire Mike Leach. He'd rip a new one against those archaic Big 10 defenses.

Personally I loved when Bob Sanders and the Hawkeyes met up with Leach and his boys back in the 2001 Alamo Bowl. Those wide receivers had the quickest set of alligator arms I've ever seen.

All of that said, I personally would love to see Mike Leach as the Gophers coach. I think it would be a nice wrinkle in the Big Ten. He doesn't strike fear in my heart though. No more than Rich Rod up in Ann Arbor does. People saying things like that are no different than people saying that Penn State was going to enter the conference and dominate it. They've won 3 conference titles in 17 years, and miserable records vs Michigan, Ohio State, and even Iowa.

I give the thumbs up for the Mike Leach hire for Minnesota. Much like Brian said he's abit like RR at Michigan. Not really the type coach that can go into an established program and be himself. Thus he has to adapt and the likelyhood of being successful at a historically top tier program is vastly downgraded because they no longer feel in total control.

Guys like Leach do better at the under the radar type schools where expectations are not nearly as high. Probably because coaches like those two arn't good at kissing a$$. To me the Leach hire would be absolutely the best hire the Gophers could make to bring national attention to their program and new facility. Not sure how their present coach recruiting classes have been, but you have to think the Leach name by itself would be awesome for recruiting.
