MTSuper7
No link sorry, but this looks legit. What impact on Bess, Marshall, etc. should we expect? Any? I didn't think Henne was THAT bad. I'm amazed they'd revert to Pennington...

CardinalEmpire.com
This pretty much makes Marshall useless, right? Pennington can't get the bal to him.
RattlerB
This pretty much makes Marshall useless, right? Pennington can't get the bal to him. Wrong. Marshall just has to be willing to catch short and medium passes and make something happen after the catch. Given time, Pennington can deliver those types of passes on the money. Ursa Majoris
Not exactly a forward thinking move, IMO. I didn't think Henne was that bad either. Ol' Noodle Arm isn't exactly a deep threat.

Exactly. I didn't even realize Henne's job was in jeopardy. This really seems like a knee-jerk reaction to a couple bad games.

bleh
Yeah I'm not sure I understand what the point of this is for a team battling in a tough division. It's a really bad move.. they aren't really in the running for a playoff spot and they may as well groom their qb of the future...

Dcat
noodle arm replaces noodle brain. great. IT'S OFFICIAL: Dolphins are a f-ing mess. Not like Dallas of course, but a mess nonetheless.
RattlerB
I'm not saying it will happen, but if Pennington carves up the Titans defense with dink-and-dunk, what do my Dolphins do then?!?!?!?
BeerLeagueQB
Does Pennington have any value? Say... is he better than Kitna? I'm in a 2QB league and hurting for a back up... Rovers
At 4-4, no NFL head coach is going to give up on trying to make a playoff run. I find it interesting that Spags also cut starting ex-first round draft pick CB Jason Allen on the same day as this announcement. Allen could make big plays, but got burnt often too. Too many mistakes. Apparently Miami thinks Henne was making to many mistakes as well. Why Pennington? He is one of the smarter NFL QB's to come along. No doubt he can read defenses better than Henne can. He won't stare down his primary targets either. His leadership abilities are unquestioned. What chances of beating the Titans did Miami have with Henne this week? I expected an ugly game, and didn't give Miami a chance. Now I'm not so sure. Pennington has always been a good third down QB, always. Very good at reading defenses and blitzes. He knows how to make the hot read. Given the Miami run oreinted offense, in a 3rd and 5, who do you trust more, Henne or Pennington? Miami is looking at this as a must win game, as they should. If they were 3-5, I doubt you would see them make this move. I also don't think this means the end of Henne in Miami. It isn't a desperation move either. Miami wants to win this game, and think Pennington gives them a better chance against a very aggressive attack defense like the Titans. Let Henne deal with the adversity. His career isn't over because of this. Teams have been bracketing Marshall. If there is a way to get Marshall the ball more often, Pennington will find it. Oh, and Pennington can still throw the ball 50 yards, but it looks like a punt with good hang time.

You only wrote it better then I ever could have. thanks. Pennington has always gotten a bad rap, but he's been a pretty good NFL QB. In 2008 he led a pretty mediocre Miami team to an 11-5 record and a playoff appearance. He has a career QB rating of just over 90, a W-L record as a starter of 43-37 and a completion % of 66. His 102 to 64 TD/INT ratio isn't great, but not terrible either. Classic game manager QB.

kingfish247
Given the Miami run oreinted offense, in a 3rd and 5, who do you trust more, Henne or Pennington? I'd say I trust them pretty equally given the state of the Phins offense. Which is saying a lot considering Henne has only started 21 games. I guess they had to pin this on someone but when I watch the Phins offense I see an offense limited by play-calling and personnel decisions...two things Henne has nothing to do with. An offense with zero identity. A great example was the Phins opening drive @BAL. Brown does well, Henne does just ok, they convert three 3rd downs ending in a TD. Ride the hot hand? Nope. On comes Williams. Nada. Ravens eat up a bunch of time on their possessions. Then MIA goes pass wacky. 6 of the 11 rushes by Ronnie/Ricky happened on their first drive in a game they didn't trail by more than two scores until the 54th minute. At the core of this problem is their idiotic RBBC. Ronnie and Ricky are similar but they certainly aren't mirror images which means the game plan (pass plays, protections, and run schemes) changes almost every possession. It's one thing if the split were productive but it's not. This isn't a run oriented team. If they were run oriented, they'd commit to the run--or at least commit to a RB that can do all the things they want to do on offense. But...they'd actually have to decide what they want to do on offense first.
