Giving Up?

Noticed in several of my leagues owners just giving up and no longer setting lineups. There is still time left in many leagues for folks to make a comeback, even if it means you have to win-out from here on. You never know what might happen, injuries piling up as the season progresses may make the top FF teams go to the crapper in a hurry. Plus it is not fair to the folks that are in the playoff hunt looking to unseed some of those that are ahead of them in the standings when u lay down and give them an easy win. Just saying...... In one of my 10-team leagues, I am currently 8th place, but 6 get to go to the playoffs, so I'm not giving up. So set those lineups like u are the league leader, you never know what might happen, and how refreshing it could be for u to make the playoffs when the odds are stacked against u. Good luck all, this has been a fun season so far:)

I detest when an owner quits, and in one league we have a serious rule: anyone who ditches on a team gets booted from the league. A few other thoughts:

1. Having a weekly payout for top team, even $5 or $10, gives most owners enough reason to finish strong. The same is true for having small prizes for owning the league's Rookie of the Year or for something like "Best Total Points Weeks 12-13." Anything to keep people motivated.

2. Consider also giving the league commissioner the power to jump in at 12:50 on Sundays and manually make an intelligent lineup if an owner stops participating. No one likes to see an opponent win by default.

3. Whenever possible, always play FF with people you have some connection with. I won more than a few Yahoo! leagues over the years after 2-3 teams just quit. This cheapens the taste of the victory Gatorade.

This is probably my biggest pet peeve. It only takes a few minutes to set a lineup. On a side note, we have a guy who's 8-2 in one of my locals. He has forgot to set a lineup 3 seperate times & has started people on a bye or who were injured.

I agree with this. In my 2 leagues, the incentive to not give up is that no one wants to be the diaper dirttiest team in the league. There was a year when I was mathematically eliminated from the playoffs with a number of weeks to go. I made certain I finished furthest from the bottom as I could because I still have to face these guys. And they dont forget!

in our local and several of our dynasty leagues we have all teams make a deposit beofre the start of the season.

for each infraction during the regular season you get fined $10 that goes into the payoff pot.

players listed as out or on a bye = a fine

Great idea on #1 need to remember those, thanks.

#2 This happened last week. I wrote on my smack board to play someone for Colston who was on a BYE. I got no response from him but from the LM who told me "no one is listening" I was going to reply and say then do something about it but shouldnt this be a given, I guess not.

there's an owner in my league that gives up if he starts 1-3 or whatever and decides it's done...

I won my 1st year in FF by going 1-3....I've started 1-4 and then won the next 9 games....

you never know...try to work the waiver wire and do trades with the few owners who actually trade in any league and hope for some luck instead of using a defeatus mentality...

The fantasy Gods will step in and strike this team down in week 15!!

I've seen an 0-6 team reel off 10 straight wins for a championship. You never give up.
