Broncos, McDaniels fined $50K each

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The NFL fined the Denver Broncos and coach Josh McDaniels $50,000 each because the team's video operations director broke league rules by filming a San Francisco 49ers practice in London last month.

The NFL investigation determined Steve Scarnecchia took the six-minute video of the walkthrough and presented it that day to McDaniels. The coach declined to view it.

But the NFL fined both the coach and team because the matter was not promptly reported, as required by the league.

"We certainly did not view or do anything with the footage, and he was made aware that it was something we didn't condone in our organization," McDaniels said Saturday. "I failed to follow through and report it to the proper individuals in our organization and with the league."

Scarnecchia and McDaniels previously worked for the New England Patriots, who were found to have violated league rules when they videotaped New York Jets coaches sending in signals during a game four years ago in a scandal dubbed Spygate.

Well, that crappy title would explain why I missed it.

Beside that, there's no way I should be denied from taking a shot of this magnitude at McDumbass.

STATEMENT FROM BRONCOS PRESIDENT AND CEO PAT BOWLEN

"I received notice today that the National Football League has completed its investigation of an incident involving our club’s violation of the League’s Integrity of the Game Policy, specifically a videotaping of a portion of the San Francisco 49ers’ “walkthrough” practice on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Wembley Stadium in London.

"Upon learning of this incident, the Denver Broncos promptly began an investigation into this matter and reported this violation to the League office, which then started its investigation.

"The Denver Broncos fully cooperated with every aspect of the League investigation.

Upon completion, the investigation revealed the following facts:

* The person who videotaped a portion of the "walkthrough" practice did so on his own and was not directed to do so by anyone within the organization, including Head Coach Josh McDaniels.

* Upon learning that the "walkthrough" had been videotaped, the Head Coach informed the person who did the taping that this was not acceptable, that this is not how the Denver Broncos organization conducts business and that he would not view the videotape.

* The videotape was subsequently deleted from the computer where it resided by the employee who performed the taping. No one from the organization viewed the videotape prior to Sunday’s game against the 49ers.

* The videotaping of this "walkthrough" practice was a one-time occurrence, erroneously performed by one employee who used extremely poor judgment.

* Head Coach Josh McDaniels was right to inform the employee that he had no interest in viewing the tape and that it was not how he or the Denver Broncos conducts business. However, under League Policy he is obligated to promptly notify the League of this matter and his failure to do so has resulted in discipline imposed by the Commissioner.

"The Denver Broncos and I, as the Owner, believe in the integrity of the National Football League and fair competition and do not, in any way, condone this type of behavior. The fact that an employee of the Denver Broncos would take such action is personally disappointing to me. I apologize to all affected by this incident. This employee is no longer with the organization.

"This incident cuts into the trust and respect our fans, our ticket holders, our community and our fellow competitors have for our organization. That is why the Denver Broncos, upon learning of this violation, immediately investigated this matter and reported the incident to the League.

"The Denver Broncos and I accept the discipline imposed by the NFL. We will take all steps to ensure that an incident like this never occurs again. We will always strive to uphold the integrity of our organization and the National Football League."

Nothing about McDaniels and the organization with him there is credible.

The guy plainly doesn't understand the game. He's supposed to be some kind of O genius and he doesn't even understand how to script simple blocking schemes - which we've seen evidence of game after game. He was caught repeatedly in blatant lies starting almost the second he took the reins of the Broncos. He inherited one of the best offenses in the league and immediately burned it down and sent some superb talent packing for little tangible return. His drafts have been nothing short of disasterous and his FA acquisitions have been predominantly busts who are either over-the-hill former stars or never-were cast-offs that other organizations no longer want to pay for little benfit to their teams. He only wants to be surrounded by players who kiss his ass. He acts like a 14 year old girl when his team scores a TD but acts like a little brat when he gets questioned in loss after loss.

Everything about this team revolves around his ego and his napolean complex. His 5-15 record in the past 20 games speaks for itself, and there is little hope that things will get any better as long as he is here and likely for at least a few years after he's sent packing.

To think that's it's impossible that McDaniels knew anything about this given his history so far is what doesn't have any credibility. Personally I think he'd stoop to any level to win games in an attempt to salvage his reputation as a coach. The guy reads near zero on the character meter despite all his posturing about the importance of building a high character organization. He is a con man who has pulled the wool over the eyes of an owner who tragically appears to be suffering from increasingly diminished mental capacity along with the eyes of the orange-and-blue kool aid drinkers like some of the DEN "fans" here who refuse to see any wrong with this team and this coach.

I absolutely believe that McDaniels was in on this, and that his put his stamp of approval on it. No statement from Pat Bowlen can make me think otherwise. We have a HC who has poisoned a team with a rich and proud tradition for nothing other than gratifying his enormous ego, and it will take years to recover even if he were fired tomorrow. The longer he's here, the deeper the poison will sink in.

Fixed

Bitter much?

The Pats fired Scarnecchia in the aftermath of spygate...the fact that McDaniel would hire him does speak poorly of him. What speaks poorly of Scarnecchia is that after the Pats fired him, he went to work for the JETS...and fed them the info on the Pats. Yes, it was wrong to do but I still maintain that the usefulness of the info was WAYYYY overblown by a bunch of blowhard Pats haters.

God knows the info did the Broncos no good.

McDaniel did a lot with Brady during his tenure here, and he's turned Orton from a complete turd to an occasional turd.

This may be why Pioli passed over the chance to hire this guy.

I'm not sure I understand why Pat Bowlen is standing behind McDaniels. If Bowlen doesn't get a clue soon, McDaniels will officially turn Denver into the Detroit Lions west. Neither team can really stop anything. But at least the Lions are trending upward a little...

According to this report, Bolen say's that McDaniels will return next year.

That story misapplies Bowlen's quotes. I've heard the referenced interview as well as one that was posted by Klis of the Denver Post this morning and in both cases Bowlen has stated that McDaniels will stay through the rest of the season and that he will continue to be evaluated during that time. That would indicate that while McDaniels' job is safe for the next 5 weeks that his future beyond that is uncertain.

If Bowlen is dumb enough to ignore the fans' growing anger then he does need to serious mental evaluation to determine how far his capacity has dropped. There's a ton of anger in the fan base and a lot of empty seats at the stadium.
