DMD
In case you were not aware, I find it fascinating that the NFL has used week 17 to have all 16 games be interdivisional games. IN many cases, week 17 will be deciding who wins the division and playoff seeding. Instead of as many dead games in the final week, we get to see more meaningful games and by delaying all those divisions from being settled, it makes more teams less likely to rest players and tank games. ARI @ SF BUF @ NYJ CAR @ ATL CHI @ GB CIN @ BAL DAL @ PHI JAC @ HOU MIA @ NE MIN @ DET NYG @ WAS OAK @ KC PIT @ CLE SD @ DEN STL @ SEA TB @ NO TEN @ IND pretty smart to me. budlitebrad
TV ratings are down across the board, EXCEPT for football, where they're higher than ever. Figure in that in 5 of the divisions, teams are tied for the lead, and in the other 3, the leader only has a 1 game advantage. Those week 17 games are going to be HUGH. And they're talking about the possibility of no football next season!?
SatchDork
I created the same situation in the fantasy football league I started 5 years ago. Just seemed obvious to me to make the final week of the regular season as meaningful as possible. Can't believe the NFL didn't figure it out sooner. Ramhock
Home league is 3 div x 4 teams. We have had the last three weeks, the second divisional matchup . . . for years.

Now we have 6 teams battling for 1 division crown & two wildcard spots.
Randall
Chi at GB So the NFL thought this would be more meaningful than Minnesota at either. Seems they were right.
detlef
Unfortunately, they got a bit hosed by the exact match-ups, but it's a fine idea in general. GB-CHI looks good. But, for the most part, they have the top playing the bottom. Imagine how great it would be to have Pit-Bal, NE-NYJ, ATL-NO, PHI-NYG... It would be like another round of play-offs. You're right, but... Even not having the crystal ball, there are still potential division records that could act as tie breakers and come right after head-to-head in priority. I hadn't noticed, but that was pretty smart. When I ran FF leagues, I always had at least the last two games inter-divisional.

Maybe, but ton the other hand: If PHL played the NYG, it would render the WAS-DAL game meaningless. Now both games have meaning and intrigue, since both NYG and PHL will need to win those games against WAS & DAL.

delusions of grandeur
I absolutely love this new policy, up until the NFL ruins it anyway with an 18-game season.... Kind of goes against the idea of not sitting guys in the final week for a key divisional matchup, when you're adding 2 more games for starters to get through without injury... How is it going to improve the game if we end up having a big week 19 matchup with the likes of Chris Redman vs. Chase Daniel to decide the division, rather than that being a preseason type of matchup like it's supposed to be. It's just silly, when you're asking teams to either play key guys for two more games and just hope they don't get injured for the important divisional stretch, or sit them during the season and hope you can stay in contention with your backups... It's obviously all about money, but it sure doesn't stand to help the quality of the product like the above policy does...
