Peter King Projects Michael Jenkins for a Big Day?

I think SI's Peter King is an excellent writer, though I sometimes disagree with his take on any number of NFL-related news items. At times I find him sycophantic, but he is at least a lifelong student of the sport, and he can be quite insightful.

Yet I scratched my head after reading in his latest column that he thinks Michael Jenkins of the Falcons will catch 6 passes for 93 yards and a TD score this week against Tampa Bay. Here is King's take:

Amazingly, Jenkins doesn't have a touchdown yet this year, and I see the Bucs loading up to stop Tony Gonzalez and Roddy White. But Jenkins has been targeted 22 times in the past three quiet weeks, and it's only a matter of time before he breaks out a bit.

Umm., Peter? Jenkins has been mostly a non-factor this year, and he has some quad issues. Also, Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez have a tendency to hog the passing yardage, while even #2 RB Jason Snelling has more catches (and almost as much yardage, and exactly two more TDs) than Jenkins. About all Jenkins seems to do is to line up to keep the safeties honest so they don't triple team White, plus throw downfield blocks and occasionally help in pass protection by smacking around blitzing corners and safeties.

But hey: maybe Peter King is onto something, and I am missing something here.

Peter King might be good at stringing words together, but I'd trust his fantasy football instincts about as much as I would from Don King. Or Billy Jean King. Or Coretta Scott King.
