Jaguars and their fans

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Despite winning four of their last five games and taking over first place in the AFC South, the Jacksonville Jaguars have been granted a 24-hour extension to the NFL's blackout deadline.

The Jaguars have about 1,700 tickets to sell for Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders to get the game televised locally and in secondary markets.

The small-market franchise has sold about 1,000 tickets every day this week, making it likely the Jaguars will get close enough to buy the remaining tickets and lift the blackout.

Jacksonville blacked out nine of 10 home games last season, creating talk that it might not be a viable NFL market. But the team stepped up ticket-selling efforts and has avoided blackouts all season.

Why call the fans pathetic ? I'm a Vikes fan and have only been to 3 of their games in the last 25 years. Of course I live in California so it's a little far to travel for a game but even if I lived within driving distance. Money is tight these days and not all of us are in a position to throw $200 (per couple) to go to a game. Those that are ,,,, well good for them and make us fans that can not afford it proud.

It just seems inevtiable that Buffalo or Jax end up in LA by 2012 or 2013.

I moved to LA the last year of the Rams and Raiders and we hear stuff like this every 3 years. LA is the bargaining chip for the league, and it's actually quite handy for their local negotiations to have us hanging over their heads. I don't think it happens.

Yeah, they are not showing up because of the economy. Because, of course, the economy only tanked in Jacksonville.

Believe me that part of the country has it much worst than a lot of other areas that have NFL franchises

Even so I believe that attendance is down all around ,,, just more in some areas than others

Either way why do the fans have to be pathetic ? If they all have a million dollars but choice not to go to the game but instead spend their times elsewhere that's makes them pathetic ?

Not sure why you are busting Jacksonsvilles balls about this, unless you're just trying to be an ass.

I would call it a heck of an accomplish for that market to avoid blackouts this season. And let's face it, the economy and peoples buying habits are a heck of a lot different than 5 years ago. Not to mention the proliferation of HDTV and people WANTING to stay home.

Heck, the Chiefs have had a ton of empty seats this year but have avoided blackouts. Personally I believe the Hunt family name carries some cache with the NFL regarding this sort of thing, but that topic is for another day.

While I don't think the NFL will ever let the Vikings leave the Twin Cities, upper-midwest market, this kind of thing scares the diaper dirt out of me. There are definitely other franchises that should move other than the Vikes, but this stadium thing is pretty scary. From what I've seen, the Vikes are in the top 15 NFL markets, and I'd doubt they would move that franchise.

At least I hope so.

Man, the day the Browns moved was the day I realized that NO team is safe. Heck, you could say the same about the old, proud history of the Colts.

Which if you think about it, in the context of this thread, is kind of funny, since Indianapolis only has a team because their city stole one from another city.

Hummmmm, a Colts fan taking a shot at the Jags fans. I'd say this was a  or

I'd say a little of both.

At least we have some intelligence on these boards. A guy can't call out the opposing fans in a heated divisional race? The boards have gone soft...

No offense guys, but the Jaguars have seats for $30. You gotta support your team when they are in FIRST PLACE. If you don't, you have a pathetic fan base.

I just looked it up on jaguars.com/tickets. Cheapest I could find was about $45, so two tickets with tax would be about $100. Parking, food and drinks is, what, $50-$75? So you're looking at at least $150, just to sit in the nosebleeds to prove to some random Colts fan that you're not pathetic. No thanks.

Tax is included on tickets. So $90. Plus there are $30 seats in the stadium. People aren't going to the games. Can probably get a ticket for less than face value outside the stadium. What else are you gonna do? Sit at home and listen to the game on the radio? Gotta support your home team if you wanna keep them in town. If you won't support them when they are in first place, when will you?

It always cracks me up when people say, well x amount for tickets, x amount for parking, x amount for food, x amount for a program, x amount for a jersey, x amount for 6 beers.

Seriously people.

There are weeks when I go to a Colts game where I park for FREE and walk a ways. Eat before I go. Don't drink any beer. Eat after the game or buy a $1 hot dog from a street cart. You're there for 3 hours, not 3 days. Why does everybody assume you have to spend $200 to go to a game? There have been times I've spent that much. Other times the only money I spent was the money I spent on my ticket.
