Qball86
So here's why I ask. I am down 17.75 points with AP (1/10, .5 ppr) and the Bears D(2 TOs, 1 sack. 5 shutout) and my opponent is done. A lot of posts this week have mentioned the field as a factor in tonights game. Just curious how it will impact the game. Is it gaining traction, the increased stress on their bodies or what? Does it provide an advantage to the offense as weather can sometimes do or maybe to the d.
detlef
I never played at a high level but watching it has taught me this much. You just don't know. Bad traction either hurts the offense because they get out of synch or it helps them because, unlike the D, they know where they're going and don't have to react. The good news is that it doesn't at all matter. Your hand has been played and it's either going to be a winning hand or a losing one and there's nothing you can do about it. You can either sweat it out because you should win and still might not or you should lose but might pull it out. Neither is any more comforting than the other. bpwallace49
Having played on frozen fields in college he is my 2 cents. Frozen ground is a BOG problem. You have a lot of difficulty changing direction and not falling down if your cleats cant get a bite into the ground. That generally is an advantage to the offense, as they know where they are going and the defense has to react. However, that is a disadvantage in teh running game. Offensive lineman cant get a push due to decreased leverage (the cleats issue) so that running lanes cannot open up as quickly. The defensive linemen can just hunker down and create a pile, so RBS have difficulty bouncing runs outside. Short passes tend to work best, depending on the condition of the balls (not an issue in the pros) and quick outside pitches to RBS. A frozen turf is also very tough for Qbs to properly set their feet for deep passes. Expect a LOT of Joe Webb scrambles tonight, I think he could get around 50-70 rushing by himself. As a former QB I'd say this is pretty spot on. Never played too much on real FROZEN ground but played alot on wet slippery surface . This also has it's traction issues and the major issue is having to almost tippy toe around the backfield handing off and especially dropping back. A ton of quick 2 to 3 step abbreviated drops with quick passes or an occasional roll out to buy some time to setup for the pass. As for RBs they have difficulty getting going off the first step and linemen tend to bog up holes causing little to no running lanes. Outside runs and short quick passes is probably what works best. A scrambling QB on Naked boots and roll outs with the option to run can be deadly in these conditions.
