BRUISER
I have been in the same league for 15 years. On numerous occasions I have brought up shortening our season and having the championship in week 16 as I imagine most of you do. Everyone grouses about the schedule if we do that. It is a 12 team league with 3 divisions. You play everyone in your division twice and the rest of the teams once. How do you work the schedule in this case? One of our tiebreakers down the line is head to head and it seems you would miss playing one team. I am bringing it up again this year but would like to present a solution. Thanks and Happy Holidays to all and good luck if you are still in.

Whiskey Pimp
We have a doubleheader week 3 and our championship week 16.
Big Country
Options could be - 1. Doubleheader Week 2. Not play every team 3. Only have 4 teams make playoffs 4. Change your division alignment to 4 divisions with 3 teams - makes a 13 week schedule easy 5. Change to 2 divisions with 6 teams - have 3 doubleheader weeks against non-division opponents
Chargerz
We have 12 teams in three divisions in my local. The first 14 weeks are the regular season (intradivisional the first three weeks. interdivisional for 8 weeks, and intradivisional again for three weeks). Four teams go to the playoffs that last 2 weeks. Week 17 is a free-for-all where the highest-scoring team makes some money. This has worked well for us. electricrelish
I'm in three leagues this year where the championship game is played in week 17. One league started last year and the other two this year. I don't mind. It gives me something to do in the last week. Yes, I know I'll be there. The logic of the two that started this year is that the NFL changed their schedule so more of the games are meaningful in Week 17. It looks like that may be the case. So far, I'm happy with it. BS Miscreant
You play everyone in your division twice and the rest of the teams once. How do you work the schedule in this case? One of our tiebreakers down the line is head to head and it seems you would miss playing one team. I have been in twelve team leagues with the same scheduling and the simple fact is, it would be nice to play everyone but it is far from necessary. The issue with a head-to-head tiebreaker, minus the one team, is meaningless as I'd imagine having to play each division foe twice will often lead to 1-1 records which will also nullify that tiebreaker. There have to be other tiebreakers in place so why make a big deal out of the possibility of that longshot. It may not happen this year but it is not uncommon for NFL teams who have locked up playoff positions to rest players the last week of the season causing what might be a very good FF team to be less than full strength. That alone should be more important than worrying about one game on your regular season schedule. If you can't decide one or the other is more important there have been several good suggestions mentioned already. The leagues I referenced have either just ignored the "not playing one team" issue or simply played an extra week and then 4 teams(3 division winners and 1 wildcard) get in. I've never had an issue with a 3rd of the league's teams getting in.
