BeachBum
(:10) (Shotgun) J.Webb pass short left to P.Harvin to MIN 35 for 15 yards. Lateral to B.Berrian to MIN 32 for -3 yards. Lateral to G.Lewis to MIN 30 for -2 yards. Lateral to V.Shiancoe to MIN 28 for -2 yards. Lateral to G.Lewis to MIN 28 for no gain. Lateral to P.Harvin to MIN 28 for no gain. Lateral to J.Webb to MIN 15 for -13 yards. Lateral to V.Shiancoe to MIN 15 for no gain. Lateral to J.Webb to MIN 35 for 20 yards. So Webb gets .75 for pass, loses 1.3 for the negative run, then adds 2.0 for the final run = 1.55 points. That give anybody a win?
historymike
But does this take into account the fact that there was a penalty on the play for an illegal forward pass? Depending on how this was ruled, it might go down as a no-play, or part of the stats might be invalidated. My understanding is that if a team is makes multiple forward passes in one play, the play is ruled dead and the team is penalized 5 yards (plus repeat the same down). But does each lateral constitute a new play, or is this one continuous play in the sense of the penalty being assessed from the spot of the foul? Chief
Believe the play was negated due to a forward lateral in there somewhere. Wasn't very pretty but was slightly entertaining.
Big John
Believe the play was negated due to a forward lateral in there somewhere. Wasn't very pretty but was slightly entertaining. Depends if the penalty was accepted or not, which was a moot point for the defense.

Chief
Seems like the ball was lost in the end. The penalty really wasn't a factor, time was, as it had run out already. What I couldn't tell was if the ref's were blowing the play dead already. Here's the whole thing with the penalty, so who gets what yards, somebody else can figure it out. (:10) (Shotgun) 14-J.Webb pass short left to 12-P.Harvin to MIN 35 for 15 yards. Lateral to 87-B.Berrian to MIN 30 for -5 yards. Lateral to 17-G.Lewis to MIN 25 for -5 yards. Lateral to 81-V.Shiancoe to MIN 20 for -5 yards. Lateral to 17-G.Lewis to MIN 23 for 3 yards. Lateral to 12-P.Harvin to MIN 15 for -8 yards. Lateral to 14-J.Webb to MIN 30 for 15 yards. Lateral to 81-V.Shiancoe to MIN 33 for 3 yards. Lateral to 14-J.Webb to MIN 35 for 2 yards (43-E.King). PENALTY on MIN-12-P.Harvin, Illegal Forward Pass, 0 yards, enforced at MIN 32. HowboutthemCowboys
Wasn't very pretty but was slightly entertaining. not when you had Detroit -3.5. I was just hoping somebody would get tackled.
historymike
Depends if the penalty was accepted or not, which was a moot point for the defense. Good point, Big John: there would be no reason to accept the penalty, since the game cannot end on a penalty, and theoretically by accepting the penalty Detroit would have given the Vikes one more shot. Nope - only on Def penalty can it not end.

That only applies on a defensive penalty. A game can end on an offensive penalty.
