Gary Brackett suspended?

INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Indianapolis linebacker Gary Brackett(notes) will almost certainly get fined after making helmet-to-helmet contact with a Tennessee player Sunday.

The Colts are hoping their defensive captain doesn’t get suspended.

Brackett has been fined twice this season for illegal hits, and some believe a third such penalty could include a suspension.

League officials have not yet suspended any players for illegal hits. If Brackett were to be the first, coach Jim Caldwell says the Colts would appeal.

Brackett was called for an illegal blindside block on Ken Amato(notes) just before halftime Sunday, a play on which Brackett ran toward the Colts’ goal line and hit Amato from the side to spring Antoine Bethea(notes) for a return off a missed field goal.

Apparently this is the Hines Ward Rule. Any contact to a player head or neck by a blocker's helmet or forearm results in a "blindside block" penalty. Brackett has been fined minimally (for him) this year. A $10k fine and a $15k fine. Pretty ticky tack stuff. This fine will probably large. If he gets suspended, I'm gonna be PISSED!
