Saints running back Pierre Thomas will miss the playoffs because of his injured left ankle.

The Saints have placed last season's leading rusher on injured reserve and signed Joique Bell from the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad.

The Saints, who open the playoffs in Seattle on Saturday, announced the end of Thomas' season one day after placing leading rusher Chris Ivory on injured reserve with an injured left foot.

Thomas played in only six games this season. He rushed for 269 yards and two touchdown and caught 29 passes for 201 yards.

Reggie Bush and Julius Jones are New Orleans' only remaining healthy running backs from the regular season. The other running back on the roster, DeShawn Wynn, was signed Tuesday.

Seriously though I didn't do a good job with the quotation marks. I was just trying to help the poor guys that for some unknown reason had PT in their line up for Smack Bowl.

Looks like Graham and Jenkins will sit this one out also. Good thing we are playing Seattle, but even then things are not looking well on the home front.

Now to hope and pray Colston doesn't have any swelling or anything today. and that Thomas and/or Shockey get better. May be seeing a lot of 4-5 WR sets with no TE. Which gives the Saints a little advantage since teams have not seen us in that formation much.

and PT will not be a Saint next year.

unless it's a cheap contract loaded with incentives.

but even then it's a longshot.

I agree on PT not coming back. There has been some talk here that the coaching staff was not particularly happy with PT's ability, or lack of ability to recover from the ankle injury more quickly. That led to a bit of back and forth between PT and the staff.

All of that coupled with PT's injury history leads me to believe he will be gone. I could see the Saints going heavily RB in the draft and let them all scrap it out in the preseason.

Some Saints tweets from today

"Payton said there was no structural damage to Jenkins' knee. Said they'll pay attention to rehab schedule with him."

Payton on his TEs: "In the case of both Dave and Jeremy, their week has gone well. And Jimmy (Graham) is feeling much better."

Payton on Graham: " News with Jimmy has been good in that a day and a half, he’s feeling a lot better than he was earlier in the week..."

Coach Payton said all the players that did not practice today will travel to Seattle.

Todays injury/practice report::

DNP - M. Jenkins, A. Hargrove, J. Graham, D. Clark

Full - J. Shockey, D. Thomas, M. Colston, A. Waters

Hasselbeck was named the starter for Seattle today as well.

Good news that Colston had a full practice. It's time for Reggie to prove his worth.

I will say this once and once only. Saints best RB by years end next year(if there is football) L. Hamilton
