Glazer: Fins keeping Sparano

Posted by Mike Florio on January 6, 2011, 11:05 PM EST

Tony Sparano

A strange two days in Miami have ended with the Dolphins not hiring Jim Harbaugh.

And they apparently won’t be hiring Jim Harbaugh.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the Dolphins are keeping Sparano as the head coach.

The news comes amid increasing reports suggesting that Harbaugh would not be joining the Dolphins. Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, for example, reported earlier tonight that Harbaugh “isn’t sold” on the Miami situation, and that he was “looking for reasons to look elsewhere.”

The end result, in our view, is embarrassment for a Dolphins franchise that allowed Sparano to twist in the wind while wooing his replacement. Apart from the egg that the team is now wearing on its face, the relationship between Sparano and G.M. Jeff Ireland likely has suffered irreparable damage.

Sure, they’ll say all the right things. But Sparano will never fully trust Ireland again.

This whole Harbaugh thing is crazy.

I have never witnessed a coaches star rising metoerically in such a small amount of time.

He's a former Michigan player and his school needs a new head coach. A month ago it was assumed Michigan would get their guy. In the last couple of weeks he has become the hottest coaching commodity in both college and the NFL. Suddenly Michigan might not be good enough for him. It just so happens that Stanford goes 12-1 this year and Harbaugh leads them to their first bowl win in years. Amazingly his alma mater has an opening. Just as amazing, the NFL head coaching job in the same area as Stanford becomes available, San Fran. Then we find out a Stanford alum...John Elway is the new top dog in Denver and lo and behold Harbaugh is at the top of his list as well. All of a sudden the Miami Dolphins deep pockets come calling as well.

What looked like a sure thing for Michigan a few weeks ago gets awfully complicated and expensive. Jim Harbaugh must have a horseshoe up his ass.

I've heard rumors that he actually took the deal from the Dolphins but he's buying them time to deal with Sparano and interview a minority coach.

Who knows. Great salary. No income tax. Good young team in need of good coaching. Willing owner. Hard to turn down.

This is just a tad awkward. Not only for the GM and the HC, but what about the players? Now they know that the front office has very little confidence in Sparano, but since nobody else would sign on, you're stuck with him.

The Miami ownership and Ireland come ot of this looking really bad. Classless to be going after a new HC while embarrassing Sporano during the process. I now think Sporano is the heads on favorite to be the first coach fired mid season next year. I think the Phins will be a certifiable disaster next year now. Probably first in line in the Luck sweepstakes in 2012.

THIS!

I'm embarrassed to be a Dolphins fan. They whole way this deal has been handled had made the organization look like a bunch of clowns in a circus with Stephen Ross the ringmaster. Now word comes that they had a meeting with Mangini scheduled, then canceled it at the last minute just adds to the whole debacle. This organization is in a downward spiral and it's happening fast. I always hoped new ownership would bring better results but alas Ross makes Huizinga look like a genius. This mess will leave a mark for a long long time. We're now the laughing stock of the league.

Yeah but are they gonna hire Harbaugh?

It is sort of like " I tried to find a hot new wife but no one was willing so I am back".

lol
