osu1322
I just got asked by a friend today if I wanted buy a square for the superbowl. Basically a grid layout with 10 numbers for each team and whoever has the square for each quarter wins 1/4 of the money. Being the betting man I am I thought why not? So I gave him my $10 and hope my numbers come up. It got me thinking how much is too much for Superbowl Squares?? How much do u guys spend one Superbowl Squares? I've thrown down $50 per square back in the day. $10 isn't bad at all. My sports bar has 3 of them, 2 of each $1,$5 and $10 squares. They fill up in a week. Rovers
I've played $250 squares. There are some around here in the bars for $1000. At these same places, they fill up fast, and I've seen $100 boxes go within a week before the Supe. The higher stakes squares always pay out to more winners as opposed to just the typical 4 quarters scores. $10 squares usually only have 4 winners, typically 200 for 1st and 3rd Q squares, 250 at the half, 350 for final. The $1000 squares usually have at least 2 people splitting it, more often four people or more. They usually split the pot a bunch of ways, and there are about 20 boxes that will pay something. Scooby's Hubby
$500 per sq.... pays $1K every score change and end of quarter $10K. nice! that's what I'm, talking about. Does the last quarter get all the money left over in case there aren't many lead changes? I think $20 per square is good b/c that cuts out the wise guy who wants to buy 20 squares. Also, never buy a square on a sheet that already has the row and column numbers filled out. That should only be done randomnly after the squares are all bought. osu1322
I honestly couldn't imagin spending $1000 a square.... that is insane... yeah i know what u mean about people buying like 10 or 20 squares on the $1 boards... Plus they only pay out maxium $25 a quarter. The one i got in (so far) they are paying $250 a quarter cuase it was just easier to do it that way (and less people bitch)

It should read 1st , 2nd, 3rd, & Final You just don't know if it will be an overtime game and you don't want to get mixed up in something like that. We had a full war about 10 years ago on a high dollar Monday night game that went into over time. It was $100 per square and the payouts read $2500 per quarter but when it went to overtime the guy whop had the 4th quarter score argued he hit the pool. We changed it the next year
rocknrobn26
We go to a party at a bar/restaurant. $160 includes a $100 square, $60 for pizza, shrimp, beef & sausage sammys, before the game, a pasta dish @ the half, and make your own sammy at games end. All and anything to drink from 4:30pm till game's end and 2-3 door prizes, usually TV's, Ipods, etc.. The 7 of us will pool our squares and split the winnings. We've taken more than our share home several times. There are also strip cards, and other square pools there ranging from $5-$50. I think it's a great deal. CrazyOne
$10/square for $1000 total pool I think is common, but yeah, I've heard of the $1000 ones. People make payments all year just to get one block, etc. Little too crazy. Also, seems like that could attract more attention given that you have $100k of what is technically illegal gambling. Could be trouble if someone decides it's trouble. $1000 pools seem less likely to do that. I'll buy a few squares in one at $10 but that's about it. osu1322
@ MustOfBeenDrunk I didn't think about that... I'm personally not running the squares but will be a question I ask him next week. Thanks for that heads up. @ CrazyOne Yeah i was thinking about that too plus what if whoever has that 100k just up and runs off with it??? sounds like a sweet payday for a conman.... I odn't think I'd pay more than $20 for a square that way there isn't enough money for someone to run off with it...
Patriots
$1,000 squares is asking for trouble. You got a guy running the pool sitting on $100K cash. What if he just took off. Or said he got robbed. He could stage a break in at his house or bar, or wherever he kept the money. $100K can make people do things you wouldn't think they would. rattsass
How much can you send though a paypal account ?? FYI if you use paypal you can't make any reference that could identify it as "gambling" or they won't accept it. That fact also would make the fact that there WAS a pool hard to prove should a scammer decide to take the money and run.
Scooby's Hubby
Or he gets assaulted walking home from the bar. I'm sorry but that was a good one How much can you send though a paypal account ?? 500 is all you can forward per month to a verified bank account for a regular paypal account. I think. at least it used to be. If you have the balls to spend 1,000 on a square then you need to be playing that one at the country club or with other really rich folks who shit 100,000 like it's corned beef (which is what I had for dinner last night ... can you say indi? I love that shit though) Edited January 20, 2011 by Scooby's Hubby

I've only seen them run at well established bar/reaurants, where the business itself is worth at least a mil. Places that have built in fireproof safes in the basement with state of the art intrusion alert systems. It would be crazy to trust just an individual with that sort of cash. For these places, they make a lot of money on the pools. People come in to make payments on their boxes, they pack the house when numbers are drawn, and they usually offer all pool players a nice Super Bowl party package. Then, when someone hits, he buys the house a round, so more goes back into the register. If someone hits big, they will call them if they aren't there, and they show up to collect, and buy a round. Typically it's a place that can have 175 or more customers in the house.

osu1322
Or he gets assaulted walking home from the bar. Had that happen to a friend's bowling leauge.... the leauge secritary was "assulted" on his way to where the banquet was with all the prize money stolen. That couldn't have been more than $10,000 or so...

rocknrobn26
There used to be a pool at the Chicago Board of trade (supposedly). $10,000 per square. They met at a high end hotel in Chi, took (supposedly) $20K for amenities, and payed off the balance for the win ONLY! No links or anything, just heard about it. MikesVikes
I do a $2 x 25 Square for each week of the season. I do a $20 X 100 Square and a $10 X 25 Square for the Super Bowl.
Sunday Couch Potatoe
100 dollar a square and you get numbers all the way through the playoffs. The payouts go up each weekend until the superbowl then superbowl is 1st qtr 750 2nd qtr 1000 3rd qtr 1250 final score 1500. the rest of the games its just final score of the game. Also 50 a square every score change remainder left goes to final score.
