loaf
Update: Stafford (shoulder) had surgery Friday morning and will be out four months, MLive.com reports. Analysis: Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery, repairing Stafford's AC joint and shaving his clavicle. He should be fine by the time training camps rolls around -- if that happens next summer -- but it's interesting to see just how much the Lions have dragged their heels about providing good information regarding the severity of Stafford's injury. tazinib1
when healthy and 'on', he's really good, but it seems like his shoulder's been hurt just too much and once more, he might be done He had surgery on his knee (scope) in 2010 and reports say he really didn't "need" this one but had the procedure done on the error of caution. I'd don't think he's done by a long shot.

tazinib1
Didn't he seriously injury his should in each of his first two seasons? When I dislocated my shoulder, my doctor told me that each additional separation would weaken the joint. While my thinking may be flawed, he's played less than half the games, yeah? I'm glad I don't have him on my roster and wouldn't trade for him. Yes. But the ACL joint has been repaired. Even though it is on his throwing shoulder, I wouldn't let that deter you from drafting him. The Lions will make every effort to protect him going forward. Look for them to draft an OL in the 1st round this year...priority for the Lions is Stafford...bar none.

Seems to me thats what they thought about Brees as well!
piratesownninjas
You know what I mean. "Error on the side of caution" Just giving you a hard time... But if that's what they were doing, why didn't they have the surgery done months ago? I think they were hoping he wouldn't need it, and now they're just trying to save face. I hope the best for him, as he grew up not too far from here, but I think the dude is fragile.
delusions of grandeur
When I said 'done', I didn't mean in the NFL, but FF. I could certainly be wrong, but I won't acquire him in dynasty and won't draft him in a re-draft until he proves that he'll play more than 13 games in 32. Hmmm, I thought this was interesting enough to look up. If you had started the same QB Detroit did in fantasy, then even with those 2 poor games where Stafford and Hill left the game early, you would have still had the 7th best QB in a 4-point TD, 2INT league. So if you have the extra roster spot for Hill, and enough faith that they won't have to go past their backup next year, then I think both of those guys are extremely draftable as a package... As for Stafford, I'd like to have faith they'll get him fixed up and he can bounce back, but I do fear he'll end up being another one that's just never able to shake that "injury-prone" tag, for whatever reason. MTSuper7
Yes. But the ACL joint has been repaired. Even though it is on his throwing shoulder, I wouldn't let that deter you from drafting him. The Lions will make every effort to protect him going forward. Look for them to draft an OL in the 1st round this year...priority for the Lions is Stafford...bar none. This is a shiddy draft class for OL compared to recent years. The Lions need too much help on D to spend their 1st round pick on OL. But if they trade down in the 1st then maybe they get an OL near the end of the 1st. There just isn't a top 15 OL prospect this year. tazinib1
Ok...how about this. If you are in a league with me, trade me Stafford. I'll take him.
whomper
The post about him being done if it gets hurt one more time may have been a little dramatic but IMO it does hold some water. You cant have a QB repeatedly injuring the same shoulder year after year and missing half a season every year and expect a big career out of him

You can't repeatedly injure and repair the same shoulder without worry. Not possible.
