myhousekey
Drew Brees was apparently hurt for about 6 weeks this season. According to Heath Evans he had a torn MCL that he dealt with for the better part of the season. Evans was on ESPN's First Take with Skip Bayless discussing Cutler being taken out of the NFCCG yesterday, and Evans decided to bring up Brees. He seemed apologetic to Brees, which is understandable since Brees tried to keep it underwraps throughout the season, even though it was noticeable that he just wasn't himself at certain points. Obviously we don't the full extent of either players injury but thought this was interesting considering how people view both of those 2 QB's. DaFreak
I never questioned that he was injured. I mean did anyone seriously think the guy just wussed out? I have more respect for Jay then ever due to the crap he has had to deal with.

Everybody knows you can have a tear and still walk around. I'll be anxiously awaiting many retractions.
myhousekey
I think most of the initial backlash to Cutler yesterday stemmed from the fact that he's such a pompous guy to begin with. The situation just added fuel to the fire that he tends to be a "me first" guy. But obviously if you are too injured to play then you don't play. No shame in that. Yeah, that and the fact that he played like doggiedoo when he was in there. I say bash away on him for his perfromance, but the same thing happened to LT in a playoff game a couple of years ago and the dude has never been the same since. I guess when you carry yourself like Cutler does it happens like you say, but the avalanche of hate was just too much.
tonyromoball
Yeah, what a bunch of BS. Cutler is a tough guy. He wasn't going to just puss out. They said the guy couldn't even plant his damn foot because his knee kept buckling. that doesn't mean you can't stand around. a buddy of mine tore his acl AND mcl and was walking around just fine before surgery. however, if he walked the wrong way even slightly, his knee would kick in he'd have to stop for a second to regroup his ish. point is, Cutler couldn't have kept playing, and he was right to sit out. instead of completely costing them the game by playing on a bum leg, he bowed out like a man when he knew he had nothing good to offer. its the damn Bears own fault that they had Todd Collins as their friggin backup. Haine looked sharp and almost got the job done. HOWEVER, even though I back cutler on this one, that still doesn't really excuse the horrible showing. what, like 6-19, no scores, 80 yds, and a pick? true, we don't know for sure how much of that poor play was because of the f'd up knee, but still. weak showing. regardless, he has all off-season to heal and this team will be right back in the thick of it next year. kpholmes
I watched Jay play in the West for years. He's a good QB but a douchey person, as evident by the show he put on on the Bears' sideline the entire second half. MCL or not, it looked like Jay quit on his team in the third quarter one game out from the Superbowl - not his performance, not his injury - his attitude. That's what made the impression for me. neilfish2
I think who the Bears fan should be bashing is the #2 Todd Collins for not being prepared to enter the game.
rattsass
I think who the Bears fan should be bashing is the #2 Todd Collins for not being prepared to enter the game. I think they should be bashing the head coach for getting to this point in the season, and not realize that putting in Collins is pointless. Ursa Majoris
I think they should be bashing the head coach for getting to this point in the season, and not realize that putting in Collins is pointless. This. Collins had a full game in Carolina and threw, what, 5 picks? He was horrendously bad to a degree rarely seen and should have been given the bum's rush then. myhousekey
I couldn't figure out how Collins ever got to start at Washington until I read the list of QB's they've had start since 2000. Rex Grossman Donovan McNabb Jason Campbell Todd Collins Mark Brunell Patrick Ramsey Tim Hasselbeck Danny Wuerfell Shane Matthews Jeff George Tony Banks Brad Johnson It almost seems like its a certainty that Jason Campbell the Sequel, aka Cam Newton, will be next on that list. half_hennessy
I have torn an MCL before and it hurt like hell I can understand why Jay wasn't out there from my experience i couldn't do anything with it I could walk straight but that was it. I was shocked so many people were bashing Jay yesterday he didn't play well but there was no way he wasn't injured he wouldn't just bail on his team why would he, he could have done it numerous times this season and hasn't. I doubt there will be any apologies from anyone around the league thats not the way they do things.

LT looked just like Jay did on the sideline except he was hiding behind the tinted mask and helmet. He just sat on the bench looking like he was pouting. bpwallace49
talk radio in Chicago is AWESOME today. People calling in saying he had better have a severed ACL to be sitting out. Conspiracy theories that the team was covering up that he was benched, which is why he wasnt getting treatment, etc. Funny, funny stuff. i_am_the_swammi
Rivers went into the playoff game in NE with a torn ACL, and still played. McNabb played a game with a broken leg. Brady just had surgery after playing all season with a lis franc injury, and put up All-Pro stats. Cutler is a a tasty morsel.

When he went out I commented to my Dad that I could'nt believe he was not dragging himself onto the field. IT'S THE NFC FREAKIN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME !! Or maybe better yet, Mike Martz, for wanting this guy so badly. The guy is done. The other games he played in this year he was terrible too. Time to call it a career Todd. IT'S THE NFC FREAKIN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME !! Definitely a puss Exactly what did you see in Cutler's game that suggested a second half revival was at hand? Would you have preferred he pressed on and sucked even worse? I'm not defending Cutler. I think he's a lousy QB. But only he and his coaches know what truly happened. The coach says Cutler wanted to go back in the game but they wouldn't let him. Injury, benching, regardless, I don't think the guy pulled himself. But even if he did, how many times do we see a guy "man up" and hurt his team with a 60% performance. People would be jacking this guy up regardless of what transpired. He can't win, unless he wins, and he can't.
Caveman_Nick
I wonder if, somewhere, Josh McDaniels is chuckling to himself...
Seahawks21
I dunno, if he was older, it is a no-brainer. Cutler's a young guy, and if you are a statue against that Green Bay defense, you could end up with much bigger injuries that could potentially hamper your career. Maybe he stays in if it was a closer game. Personally, I think that I probably would play, but if it scared him or the doctors quite a bit, I could see the other side. So he isn't Tom Brady. Who is? Cutler has missed like one game in his entire career. Something wasn't right. He didn't just say he can't go and then stand there watching. That just doesn't make sense. Cutler could make close to 100 million over the next ten years. Would you risk 100 million to play in a half of a game with overwhelming chances that you're not going to win? He can't win, unless he wins, and he can't. He's the starting QB for a team that's playing one 60 minute game to decide who represents the NFC in the Super Bowl. I can't imagine him not screaming at his coaches to get back in the game. I also think there's probably a pretty good chance that Lovie's gonna say that is was his decision no matter what to defend his QB.
