Living the Dream
I dont get why the Packers would have wanted to leave out players who are on IR for the SB photo in the first place. Isnt Green Bay all about team, etc.. What does it say if your hurt players are not worthy of being in a team photo. Apparently Barnett and finley tweeted their displeasure about it, and the fans went nuts about it, and the Packers changed their stance. Only to have Mccarthy now say it was a poor decision for them to speak up about what many of their own fans think was an injustice. Why change your stance because of public opinion, then complain about doing it, saying it was a poor choice for them to speak up in the first place, when clearly had they not, nothing would have changed and they wouldnt be in the picture. My bet Barnett change of heart about regretting speaking up, probably has something to do with the fact Teddy is probably going to hold a grudge and not bring him back as a result of this. he was probably on the bubble anyway, and this may have sealed his fate. Pretty sad story IMO. Finley and barnett made plays before being hurt, would receive a ring if the Pack wins, but for team management not to include them in the photo seems like the poor decision. Not these star players being upset to not be included. What the local angle to this story? kpholmes
McCarthy has said his stance changed after meeting with team captains and has nothing to do with public opinion. Banett said he apologized because of the unintended negative attention it has brought the organization. Was he justified to be upset? Sure. But bring it to the coach one on one. All he's done now is created a distraction for the team as it heads into the biggest game of the past decade.

Why didnt he ask those captains before they originally decided to leave them out. Public Opinion is what changed their mind. And it also ends the distraction. Not a big thing, just not sure I understand what management was thinking in the first place.
chester
Sounds like a big misunderstanding to me. Picture was supposed to be taken in Dallas and nobody thought about the fact that those guys wouldn't be there. Coach said it was brought to his attention by the 2 captains (Woodson and Rodgers) and took care of it right away. It's all media stuff as far as I'm concerned. DallasMothership
Why wouldnt they be there. Hell teams have past players and celebrities on the sidelines in these games. Why not have all your players there, so they can enjoy the experience. One theory is that they feared the players on IR might lure some of the active players to party instead of adhering to curfew. The Super Bowl is obviously one giant party and the Pack has a league high 16 players on IR. I don't see how these 16 players could help the others focus. Barnett himself has shown poor judgement in the past when it comes to partying. He should be happy to get to stand on the sideline during the game and get his Super Bowl ring. Imho, the Super Bowl ring is about 1,000 times as important as some dumb team photo. Do they even issue a football card with the team photo anymore (with a checklist of all the players on the back, lol)? Many thought Barnett would get cut this offseason due to his high contract, the emergence of other linebackers, and his lack of big plays. This may have cemented it. I hated it when I got a team card that had a bubble gum mark on it. Used to piss me off.

bpwallace49
Only one answer really. Fire the entire management staff immediately, from the GM down to the equipment manager.

No way did the coach keep those guys out of the picture on purpose. I'm sure the players will be on the sidelines for the game, but there is no reason for them to be there for the two weeks prior. The players might have families. So they can spend two weeks up in a hotel with other teammates, doing nothing but thinking about how much it sucks that they aren't playing, or they can stay at home and spend time with their families. I'd bet the wives didn't particularly want them to go, and many of us know that a battle like this is usually best avoided.

Thw main reason they arent there is so that they dont miss any scheduled rehabbing for their various injuries.

Menudo
I think that the only fair punishment for this is that they have to forfeit their next scheduled football game.........whoever it is against. piratesownninjas
I highly doubt this was a priority of Mike McCarthy to look and see when the IR guys got into town compared to the team photo. Nick Barnett and Jermichael Finley need to grow up and get off of twitter. And Barnett's fate was likely sealed when he went on IR along with Bishop playing lights out and AJ Hawk figuring the 3-4 out. Barnett is the oldest of the three, and Bishop and Hawk have proven to be good enough to get to the SB. Barnett and Finley are two of my favorite players, but there is a right way to handle things. A phone call to Rodgers or Woodson would have been suffice, but they, along with Finley's wife chose to play the twitter game.
kpholmes
Rodgers weighs in “I was on IR back in 2006,” Rodgers said. “I chose to stick around and finish out the season with my guys and be here every game. Some of those guys didn’t. And so, we love them, we care about them, we don’t wish injury on anybody, but this is a group of guys that’s really come together and has been great to work with. It’s been great to work with guys we brought in. Some of the guys who were injured, you know, they are still part of this team, but some of them didn’t choose to stick around.” “They’re part of this team, first and foremost.” Rodgers then added, however, “But some guys choose to rehab in other places.” Edited January 29, 2011 by kpholmes

If he chose to rehab away from the team, then why want to be in the picture? And what a slow news week for the SB if this is getting headlines. chester
While I believe that all of them should be in the picture, this is our current society. Instead of informing the coaches/captains, their first reaction is to b1tch about it on twitter. I'm not saying that it would have fixed it, but it appears that a simple request was answered quite quickly. If I get pi$$ed at my boss I tell him why, I don't tell everybody else first. I complain after he doesn't fix it.
