What is Kolb worth

With Vick being franchised it seems that the Eagles are looking to trade Kolb. So since the QB draft class looks suspect does a team try and trade for him and if so what is he worth? Vikings don't have a 3rd thanks to the Moss tradew/ NE. Is he worth a 2nd?

I did not see him play this year, so I am really curious if he is just overhyped or is legit? Is he better than what's available in the draft?

If he has a decent OL, he is no worse than a Flacco-type QB, likely with some solid upside. Hard to tell this year since the Eagles OL was a disaster, and it made life tough for a QB is isn't especially mobile. That was a big part of why the Eagles ultimately went with Vick.

He should garner a high 2nd from a lousy team desperate for a young QB. I am thinking one of Carolina, San Fran, Minnesota, Cincinnatti or Miami will give up their 2nd-round pick for him.

If the Vikings were to get him for a 2nd rounder, I would be ok with that (as you pointed out, we don't have a 3rd and no way he goes for less than that). But the Vikes have so many other needs as well, that they would probably need to trade down in the 1st round to try to get some additional picks.

He has a year left on his contract extension, paying him just over 12 Mil this season. With that kind of salary for a backup, the Eagles are just as inclined to trade him as other teams are to get him.

Kolb is going to make a little more than a million this year. The Eagles will look for something decent in return.

Which is it? Can't be one million, surely?

I think KP and myself nailed the Kolb debate in the other thread..to lazy to copy/paste our comments here.

I would take Kolb over Vince in a heartbeat. There is a reason the Eagles parted ways with McNabb and it wasn't foresight on how good Vick would be. If anybody tells you they did, ask them what they are smoking 'cause i'd like some.

+1

I'd take Kolb over any QB in the draft this year.

Reid knows his QBs, and when he let McNabb walk, it was to put Kolb at the helm of that offense. You'd better believe teams in need of a QB are looking at making Kolb the cornerstone of their franchise next season.

If I could guess, I'd say we'll see him playing in SF next season.

QB hungry teams that are built to win now (Cardinals,Vikings and perhaps 49'rs), would be wise to invest a 1st on Kolb rather than go through growings pains with a rookie. There are no immediate impact QB's in this draft (Ryan,Bradford,Sanchez,Flacco etc.).

As a Niner fan, I'll echo what KP and taz said. I can't see why he shouldn't be worth at least a 2nd pick. The Niner's 1st rounder might be too high, but I'm not even certain of that.

Why?

He's proven that he was not a stretch at the end of the 1st and now he's had a few years in the league to train. I would take that over anyone the Niners could get at their 1st pick, regardless of the position. And the Niners have spent plenty of high picks on OL of late so they should be fine there for a guy who is a prototype passer. They are one of a few teams who could make an immediate leap into relevance with the addition of a good QB. And the best thing about Kolb, it's not like they'd be bringing in some old vet as a short-term fix. They'd be all set for a while because he's young. That makes him different than making a run at a guy like Volek or something like that (which I also wouldn't mind but they'd still need to look at who the QB of the future is going to be).

Mind you, I'm also not at all a fan of the ROI of top 10 picks anyway (though that is very likely to change going forward as it seems one thing that will certainly get worked out if they're having football this year is a rookie wage scale that will make those picks a bit more worth the money).

So, in short, I would not mind the Niners trading their 1st for the guy but would obviously hope they could get him for less. Maybe swap 1s and throw in a 3rd or something?

Mehh, a hand kolb and a reach around?

I mean the guy hasn't proven a thing and after a couple of games as the starter seemed to be schemed into mistakes and holding the ball. At this point I don't see him as a starting QB in this league. Probably a Harrington clone IMO.

the Vikings would have to pony up a 2nd and a 3rd from next year....

actually, I'd take a 1st and 3rd next year because the draft class should be stronger then anyways...

We're not discussing Romo here

I was under the impression that the Eagles were still only listening to offers of a 1st and another high pick. I'm not sure I'd go that high, but if the Seahawks offered #25, I'd be optimistic.

This is what John Clayton was saying yesterday... Philly expects a 1st +.

Insanity.

If Kolb is worth a 1st +, Matt Flynn is worth an entire draft.

I agree this doesn't make much sense. He was drafted as a 2nd rounder - what exactly has he shown to increase his value to a 1st round pick, let alone a 1st plus? 11TDs, 14INTs and around 2,000 yds passing doesn't give me much more to go on than before he played an NFL down. I suppose you know that he didn't melt down, a la Ryan Leaf

All it takes is one desperate team and a donkey owner...

Kolb showed me nothing this year, and had he not had those solid games last year he wouldnt have proven to be worth a 3rd round pick. He regressed when he was given the starting job, than when he took over for Donovan in 2009. That would scare the hell outta me. I think id rather spend a 2nd rounder on Andy Dalton.
