Savage Beatings
Why would anyone want to play for this team? http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/...incent-jackson/
bpwallace49
Vjax wants a Brandon Marshall contract. While this is a lot better than last year, this still isnt in the 30 mill guarantee that Vjax wants. Then Vjax walks next year?
Savage Beatings
I'm sure he will be fine with the one year guaranteed contract averaging the top 5 at his position (assuming the Franchise Tag is even legitimate anymore), but obviously the guy doesn't want anything to do with this team. It's just kind of a dick move to keep forcing him to play there. And don't get me wrong... I totally understand why they did it from a business standpoint, but if I am a player and I have any say at all in deciding which team that I play for, I would avoid AJ's Chargers like the plague. i_am_the_swammi
I'm sure he will be fine with the one year guaranteed contract averaging the top 5 at his position The salary is nice, but what these guys are looking for is the upfront $10-15M signing bonus. Get hurt this year, and he gets none of that. In some cases, your better off being an average player and getting a moderate signing bonus (since you'd never be franchised) than a stud player who gets franchised and potentially gets nothing (in terms of signing bonus). I think the new CBA will address this flaw in the system that basially holds a player hostage and puts his ability to cash-in at stake. I am fairly sure that his entire salary 10+ million is guaranteed as a tagged franchise player even if he gets hurt. Granted, it isnt what he is looking for, but it IS all guaranteed. Chargerz
This announcement came as no surprise. There are worse things in life than playing a game for 10 million dollars a year. AJ knows the negotiating rules and uses them. VJax will play another year for the Chargers and will play well. In interviews on the local sports shows both AJ and Jackson have been noncontentious. It's conceivable that he might get the long-term contract he wants from the Bolts IF he can stay out of trouble. I would get this guy a personal chauffeur right now for his daily use just to make sure. On a side note: Legedu Naanee was arrested yesterday for public intoxication and resisting arrest in Indy. He will definitely NOT be a future Charger.

Shorttynaz
I wouldn't have been surprised if Ajiro beat out Naanee straight up next year anyways. There was a bust this season. I remember all the pre-season draft rankings and cheat sheets talking about how Nannee was supposed to be a late 2nd half draft sleeper/steal. Yeah - he really panned out.. Granted, it isnt what he is looking for, but it IS all guaranteed. It's guaranteed even against injury, but I think he still has to sign the tender to put that into effect, and once he does that salary is on the books for the Chargers cap. Chaz Woodson surprised the Raiders by signing it right away rather than continuing to negotiate a longer term deal a few seasons back, and also recall Matt Cassell signing his tender from the Patriots right away too... putting them in something of a cap bind with free agents coming off the board around the league.. they dealt him real quickly after that to KC. Get hurt this year, and he gets only his salary (which while substatial, is not the pot of gold that the signing bonus represents).
kpholmes
AJ Smith is a joke of a GM. As long as AJ and Norv are running things down in SD, Rivers' and Gates' careers will continue to waste away. Having Rivers in your division is like having Dan Marino in your division - you expect him to beat you at least once a year, probably twice - but you'll never have to worry about him winning a Superbowl. Just ask Drew And understand, while I despise Phillip Rivers as a person, I respect the hell out of him as a QB. My disgust lies solely in Chargers' management. I had Floyd at the beginning of the season last year in a keeper and thought Nannee had a brilliant opportunity so I gambled.... Oh boy did I pay on that one. Sometimes thinking outside the box DOES NOT PAY!!!!
