Playoff Rules

  1. 1. Would your league just shift the season 2 games deeper or do something different

    • Just start playoffs 2 weeks later
      20
    • Might consider changing when it starts and/or how many teams
      15
    • Might consider "best of 3" or something
      5
  2. 2. Would your league change free agency rules

    • Not likely
      18
    • May consider
      16

With an 18 game season a lock or a dream depending on who you ask, it is at the least a serious possibility.

Would that change anything about your league?

Have to believe that NFL teams that clinch the playoffs will be even more likely to rest players and maybe more than just one week or even just two. How does that play into fantasy playoffs in your league? Does it finally stop all leagues from using the final week of the season? Is there any reason to change how many teams are in the playoffs or even use some "best of 3 scenario". If you ended the regular season still at week 14, then you would have 4 weeks instead of 2 weeks to use. Or does football by definition always mean "one and done"?

Also - many leagues suspend free agency before the playoffs but longer seasons could mean more injuries, more players sitting out and more reasons to have a roster of options. Would this mean no more leagues that prohibit roster changes when the playoffs begin?

Lot of angles here potentially...

Truthfully, I think many dynasty leagues would want to keep their schedule as is the first season through on an 18 game season. Let the championship finish in Week 14, and then focus on how the NFL plays out from there, then bringing it up in rule-review the following off season.

I could see leagues using weekly double-headers (or even triple headers) to get each team's schedule to come out even, depending on the number of teams and the style of playoffs.

I, for one, prefer "all-play, no-playoffs" leagues.

My big money local which is a traditional 12 team, 3 division league, 14 weeks regular season (play div opponents twice, everyone else once) , 4 teams make the playoffs for weeks 15+16.

I'm in a work league runs on ESPN and that does two week playoff games. I have to admit I love them. First half results, make adjustments and run out there for the second half. Seen more than a few comebacks. If the NFL goes to 18 games, then I plan to propose no change in my big money local of any format other than playoff round 1 is weeks 15 & 16 and the final game is 17 & 18, whether or not they go to 2 bye weeks in each NFL teams' schedule.

I think most will go for it. Honestly the only hitch is coming up with a game for the non-playoff teams to get into since they'll be eating over a month's worth of fantasy stats. Some sort of round robin tourney for ultimate 5th place or something like that.

So that's my answer: 2 rounds of 2 week playoff games per round.

With the 18 game season (Considering it 19 weeks with a bye week), then I would like to see the Championship games held in week 17. Teams rest players more than just the last week of the season. I know that would be gypping people a week of fantasy, but I think that teams would get better representation in general.

How about keeping it as is (Superbowl week 15) and doing another draft to play out the rest of the season, maybe just total points. That way you would redraft knowing what players might sit. It would give you a second season of 4 or 5 games. You could even incorperate some sort of keeper system from the 'first' season.
