What is the deadline to save the season?

I am hearing that July 16th would be the latest the hold out could go before the NFL starts to consider scrapping regular season games. That gives you 2 weeks to sign rookies and free agents. There are 8 new coaches who have not even handed out playbooks, yet. My feeling is that even if we get a deal on July 16th, then the NFL may have to cancel the first two pre-season games.

Experts, what is the latest date we can hold out until we start culling regular season games?

I'd estimate August 1st, with a lot FAs signing running into the preseason schedule as the season openeer gets pushed back.

Regarding FAs, given the timeline that is going to be presented, I think you're going to see a bunch of them regretting taking such a militant stance. The top FAs will get moved on quickly to get them in the fold and working, and teams can't afford extended bidding wars on guys. So top FAs are going to benefit from what would normally be considered excessive offers. Unfortunately, that's going to reduce the money available for everyone else - and these guys want to play in the NFL, they're going to most likely get contracts that they'll be unhappy with.

That siad, UDFAs might be able to get some decent looks as a lot of vet FAs hold out for what they think they deserve and teams need players in camp to get the work done. I this gets protracted until at least the middle of June, some UDFAs may get longer looks than they normally would - which could also hurt a lot of the vet FAs.

I'd also say that I'm not too optimistic about the whole thing right now. Neither side can side down for more than 2 days over a period of 3 weeks, and one side won't even offer counterproposals. Both sides are doing everything they can to kill the golden goose.

IMO the only way a deal gets done is when a vocal contigent of players finally put pressure on their representatives to get a deal done. The owners are in it together and I don't see them backing down anytime soon. The players will eventually fracture and that's when it all wraps up. How long until the players fracture? That's the only question that needs to be answered if you ask me.

Agreed. I've repeatedly heard owners including Goodell and Jeff Pash say they need to get back to negotiating among themselves instead of doing this through the courts but I have yet to hear a single person on the players side say anything like this.

There are contengency plans that can delay the start of the season by up to 3 weeks and maintain a full schedule, but with no bye weeks.

Start 3 weeks late and still play a full 16 games ,,,, I can see scrapping the bye week & moving the Superbowl back a week but that would only make up for two weeks ?

Move the Super Bowl back a week and scrap the extra week between conference championships and Super Bowl. Then eliminate bye week and that's three weeks.

With one dynasty team, i have studs, but no depth, so I'd be happy with canceled bye weeks!

what do you mean it's not all about me?"
