It doesn't matter who is in the right or who is in the wrong. Public opinion is not going to sway one side or the other. Once football returns, fans that supported the players are not going to act any differently than fans that supported the owners, at least not to a significant degree. I'd guess many of the players wouldn't want reporters looking to make stories out of small things that might happen. I mean fights happen during practice with coaches around. Ray Lewis may stab an OG for cut blocking him. Jeremy Shockey will beat someone with a lunch tray while eating. Haynesworth will stomp on some dudes head after he pushes them to the ground. The cop detail was only a minor annoyance, but I wrote several thousand words to detail that annoyance The players doing their thing and shutting up about it is absolutely the best plan. Further, you can't get any more ironic than to reduce their workouts to try to stay sharp at their craft as nothing more than "a powerful public-relations pitch", yet expect them to make actual verbal statements and media for him to sell to the fans while they make nothing and risk everything with a "non-football" injury... That is the kind of stuff that happens in normal games and practices on occasion. I could just see some reporter twisting a story into "in fighting" amongst the players because two dudes get into it. It could also be a time for them to talk about what's going on with the lockout and what their opinions are to eachother. Of course some writer would want in on all of those discussions and twist some story about how the players hate all owners or something stupid like that. Nothing wrong here....move along.
