Ray Rice vs. LeSean McCoy

Both are PPR monsters, both had over 1,000 yds rushing, over 500 yds receiving. SOS is very close. Rice had to deal with vulture McGahee. So both look almost the same, you can't go wrong with either. I think I give the edge to McCoy, just b/c of style of offense (pass-happy)

Any thoughts?

This seems like a tough one but at the end of the day, I'm going with Rice all day. The one thing that scares me with McCoy is the fact that Vick is gonna be the guy to take over a game on a regular basis (not McCoy) and if it's not with his legs, it's with long bombs to DeSean and heavy doses of Maclin. Not to say that McCoy won't catch 75+ again, but he's the 3rd option at best and much less reliable than Rice, imo.

Rice is going to catch just as many balls and will log more carries, AND he's arguably the #1 option on the Ravens offense. More opportunity + primary offensive weapon = higher probability of success.

in a PPR McCoy is a top 10 RB, but Rice is probably a top 5 RB...imo anyways...especially if the Eagles scoop up Reggie Bush...McCoy will be more fresh in this case which could help him on the ground, but cause his production to suffer in the passing attack...

although I will say drafting Rice will scare me because I usually am afraid to draft a RB who hasn't had a significant bump in the road headed into his 4th season....I usually lean more towards someone in their 2nd/3rd season depending on how much they have toted the rock as a rookie...

but that's just me, I'm not saying he's injury prone or anything...just my .02...

I don't like the inconsistency from McCoy (prob play calling to blame) when Vick is starting. 7 rushing TD where 3 came in one game. 2 receiving TDs spread out over 16 games. Maybe you get 100 yards all purpose per game, that is all I can count on. Makes him an expensive draft pick if in the 1st or 2nd round.

My gut reaction is Ray Rice all day long. But in most of my leagues McCoy outscored him for the season (by 50 points in one league) and McCoy never had a 45 point game. Rice had 100 more carries. Now I know the 100 more carries can probably be written off as a difference in running sytles but McCoy only had like 15 more catches than Rice. On 85 more touches, Rice was outscored for the season by McCoy to the tune of 25-50 points. That's tough to ignore. One season isn't everything, but last year is the only year we have to compare where neither was a rookie.

If Bush goes to Philly, I probably like Rice a ton more than McCoy but right now I would probably favor McCoy. Seems strange that Philly would be interested in Bush since his game is so similar to McCoy.

Bush is more like Westbrook with probably weaker running skills while being even better in the passing game.....McCoy is pretty decent in the passing game, but is in a system that will exaggerate a RB's abilities in the passing game.....not to mention he has the best running ability out of the backfield compared to Bush and Westy...

here's how I rank them..

passing game

Bush

Westy

McCoy

running game

McCoy

Westy

Bush

imo McCoy is significantly better than Westy on the ground, but Westy was remarkable in the passing game....in a PPR, I think McCoy holds the highest value based on his balance...but if Bush goes to the Eagles, his fantasy value in a PPR would be a better play based on where their respective draft positions would be....because Bush would be in what might be the best offense for a RB who catches well (if said move is made)...

anyways, my point is - Bush in the 5th > McCoy in the 2nd....and even then, you might be able to get Bush even later, but I would actually target him and secure it..

that's weird, in my local Rice outscored McCoy by half a point.

Rice struggled last year but he was also plagued with a knee injury. I think by far, Rice has the better year come this year.

Despite the numbers from last season I think Rice has much better odds at continuing his production consistently on a long term basis. I don't think McCoy's numbers are a complete anomaly, but it stands to reason that when a player is not the lone play-maker, the main cog, or even has an offense the specifically supports a player's assets then that player won't typically keep up a consistent performance. Now you would argue that Philly's offense does support his style & while true, they also do a lot of other things & do them well, in other words, spread the ball around. They're not looking to close out games with McCoy, he's not going to be pounding the rock with a good lead. Whereas Rice is the main focus of what the Ravens want to do. Everything they do is to set him up to grind out a game, punish & wear out opponents, keep their aging defense fresh. I'll take that player any day over the guy who could break one at any minute.

I heard he was told to have surgery in the offseason and neglected it...(prior to last season)....I'm shocked he finished the season...

I wonder how he'll fare this upcoming season if he isn't 100%....but if he is, I like him as a top 5 back at worst in a PPR...

are you sure about that?

I'd still probably take Rice as well but mainly because he is the #1 in that offense

The Bush rumor is a joke BTW- I see no reason why he would sign in Philly

Yeah, McCoy was pretty consistent last year, I just have a hard time believing that he's the type of player, in the right situation, to produce at that level on a yearly basis.

Very true & McCoy certainly has the talent, but then again so does Rice. Then, to me, it all weighs down on opportunity & situation & I believe that is where Rice has the clear advantage.
