Big F'n Dave
They'll do an online edition, but no paper mag this season. Sux. I've got like the last 10 seasons. Plus, I'm pretty sure I paid for 2011 when I ordered last year.
irish
Less paper mags seem to be the norm this year with the threat of there being no football. I always loved seeing them come out on the shelves because it's just another reminder of how my favorite time of year is just around the corner. I usually pick up a couple just cause i enjoy being inundated with FF but the shelves are almost completely devoid of any FF mags this year. I went to a Barnes and Noble 2 days ago and they had 1 magazine. There are usually no less than 5 and upwards of 10 by the time i leave for my yearly Florida vacation at the end of June. Sad. DMD
I have every FF Index back to 1993 I think. They made the decision about a month ago since their magazine is usually assembled mostly in May and it was already evident that the lockout was going to last through the month at least. The ESPN fantasy magazine has also been shelved this year for sure. USA Today may do one late depending. Not sure about the others.
Clubfoothead
Wow. I loved how they did the code word for the internet update.
Henry Muto
I have every fantasy football index magazine sitting next to me I keep them all right here as I look back at them all the time past predictions especially on rookies. I will never forget the FF Index telling everyone that in 1998 Randy Moss will most likely not be a special player. All in all though they are my favorite magazine. I have ever year from 1995-2010 and it really stinks that I won't be getting 2011. Online just isn't the same as having the book.
DMD
What will be even more interesting is to see what magazines return in 2012. Hard to float a business that has no revenue for a year.

My boss bought me Fox Sports mag recently while we are shooting a feature. I opened it up to the TE rankings and they ranked JerMichael Finley #9. I promptly threw it in the trash. For reasons like this, I have steered clear of paper mags the past few years.

I got the Sporting News Fantasy Football magazine at a drug store for $7.99 a couple of weeks ago. Still haven't found the chance to read it, but just got excited by seeing it, so I did an impulse buy.
MikesVikes
I was surprised to see any FF mags on the shelf at Barnes & Noble to be honest. What good would they be now anyway?
bostonsoxandy
I was surprised to see any FF mags on the shelf at Barnes & Noble to be honest. What good would they be now anyway? They sell like hotcakes to the casual FF players. And to a person like me I like to pick one up just to get a nice perspective on certain players I don't know much about (this year think Roy Helu, Leshoure) and what they think about them....they don't ever have a true value you can't find somewhere else though
MikesVikes
That wasn't a typical rag bashing on my part. I was talking about this year in particular. Most of the mags are printed in May. Way too early to account for the many free agents that don't have a team. This will be the first season that I won't look at a Fantasy Index magazine. Count me among those that STILL have their old copies of FFI, mine only go back to 1999 though. In fact, it's the only mag I buy every year. I hope its a one-time thing and not a trend as the magazine world shrinks.

If it does well, I don't think they will go back to print anyway and instead turn into an online subscription/Ipad-type mag.

Do I introduce my laptop to the bathroom or not...
badboy
I've bought the magazine since 1992---I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I guess I'll check out other magazines because I like to have at least 1 as reference before, during, and after the draft.
rajncajn
Personally I think it was a big mistake not to print this year. I think the majority of owners, casual and not, are looking at the upcoming season with blinders on. I know I am expecting a season and I've already bought a pro football mag and will likely buy a fantasy mag just for bathroom material. What information is really missing that has prevented them from publishing? FA and mini-camps isn't really that big of a deal & it's not like they can't do online updates like they always do. The problem is that without free agency, there is no way to know what the makeup of any team is going to be or what situations rookies step into or what to expect from almost any player since the team around him is going to change. Camps are meaningless but FA is not and this year it looks like several QB situations are going to be fluid and that affects the entire team. This years limited FA run will be the most explosive and busiest of any FA run in NFL history. The dynamics of several teams will be affected by it. So say that in the magazine and tell fantasy owners just what you told me. This is what it is right now, this is what might happen if they get X player in FA. Then when FA happens, use it as a selling point to get people to hit your web site for updates.
darin3
I could be wrong, but don't these magazines go to press before the majority of free agent moves are completed anyways? To me, free agent movement would be something I'd have to track on a daily, case-by-case basis... and wouldn't rely on printed information of this ilk for anything free-agent related. The majority of free agent moves are made in March before the NFL draft, then some straggle in after June 1st when they make cuts though rarely anything notable. Most mags like FF Index go to press at the first of June or so.
