Scooby's Hubby
The Eagles must have a good (not just so-so) back up QB for Vick if the Eagles intend to make a Super Bowl run. As proven in last year's playoffs, an injury could happen at any time and Vick could be less than 100% quite easily and/or may miss games due to injury. Who are the Eagles choices for an insurance policy at QB? Trading Kolb makes sense, but what starter quality QB FA will be happy to be a back-up and how much money or value do the Eagles budget for the backup QB position? BearBroncos
I still think they will shoot for some potential starter for the backup role. I think they shoot for a player like Tavaris Jackson or even see if they can land Vince Young. They've always been a team that loved a QB that could move and with Vick's propensity for injury, either of these guys might make a suitable backup.... with proper mentoring that is. Also, they've (they being Philly) never shied away from locker room drama so I see their personal issues as a non-factor.
Scooby's Hubby
would Reid want another scrambler, though? Seems he would go for the more accurate type...
BearBroncos
would Reid want another scrambler, though? Seems he would go for the more accurate type... It's two different systems from a scrambler to a pocket passer. Wouldn't it easier to get a QB that emulates what your current starter does versus train your entire o-line to protect a pocket passer for if and when your primary QB goes down? Avernus
I'm still not sure if the OL is good enough to protect a pocket passer....I like Kafka a lot and if the OL was improved on then I would say get another vet QB in there like Bulger who can make the reads and be serviceable as a backup until Kafka really gets things down... if not, I'm not sure who is available that can scramble well and I don't want to hear the name Jeff Garcia... BearBroncos
football is a year long sport here in Philly....there's always...something True we have the Rockies.... wait... Well, we have the Nuggets.... wait... Maybe not those other guys but we surely have the Av's to tal....wait.... Hell, that's all we have to talk about is the Broncos.... Of, them and our major league Lacrosse team.... Nah!

Pretty bold statement if you ask me. But I too believe he needs one more year of seasoning as the #3. They will bring in an inexpensive veteran to back up Vick for this year. Hey I know....there is always that McNabb guy
BearBroncos
there is always that McNabb guy I'd rather call up Cunningham and see if he'd be interested before I'd bring back McNabb. Edited July 6, 2011 by BearBroncos
Bronco Billy
+1 I can't remember who, but somebody on the coaching staff called Kafta the best QB prospect he's seen in 16 years. Pretty bold statement if you ask me. I don't think that was quite the quote. Let's see if I can't find it... Here it is link Certainly the coaching staff has been effusive in their praise since selecting Kafka in the fourth round last year. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg went so far as to say that, when it comes to picking up an offense, Kafka "could be the best rookie that I've ever had in 15, 16, 17 years." There's a big difference between picking up the O and implementing it on the field effectively. There's no doubt that Kafka is smart - but can he play at this level? I think T Jackson or Young are naturals at backing up Vick. Both have regular season game experience, both are looking at places to land and know they won't likely be starting next year. Seems like both guys fit PHI pretty well in that they can still keep Kafka around but PHI will still have some experience on the bench that they won't have to pay a ton for. bpwallace49
Vince Young is a decent backup that will be available that can avoid the rush . . . I also like Kafka, but he is more of a long term prospect when the o-line gets better. I can see a VY or Tavaris Jackson as a stopgap 2nd QB on a 2-3 year contract. Matt Moore CAR would also work, IMO.
BearBroncos
Daunte Culpepper's only 33. Actually..../dramatic pause - Nah, he looked horrid when the Lions gave him a shot. If you can't look like an elite QB playing in Detroit, you're done as a NFL player. Edited July 6, 2011 by BearBroncos
Bronco Billy
I'm just jealous that there are three PHI threads and there's absolutely nothing worth discussing in Denver. It's okay. PHI has about as much chance of winning a championship as DEN next year. The records may be mirrors of each other, but in the end both will need tickets to go to the Superbowl. At least we aren't deluded about our chances...
bpwallace49
Isnt Caleb Hanie a free agent from Chicago? He looked pretty good when Cutler was out this year . . . Or MAYBE they spend a 6th round pick and take Terrelle Pryor in the supplemental draft?

Speaking of Hanie, I'm not in front of any contract info so I don't know if he is a FA or not, but I think that is who Seattle should go after. Bronco Billy
man, was I wrong about McD. If Tebow isn't the golden boy -and- we don't suck enough to get Luck, we're gonna be screwed for years. There's at least 3 guys in next year's draft who fit the bill as franchise QBs. Losing out on the Luck sweepstakes isn't the end of the world. Besides, I think there's more to Tebow than we've seen so far. I'm think I'm going to have to eat crow about him and admit instead that he can be very productive as a pro QB. I really liked some of the stuff I saw in the last 3 games, and given his reputation for superb work ethic and honing his game, I think this kid may work out pretty well. We'll see (hopefully if Orton isn't in the way). Edited July 6, 2011 by Bronco Billy
