i_am_the_swammi
Was listening to the local momo's this AM, and they brought up the intriguing possibility of the Eagles making a run at Marion Barber once Dallas cuts ties with him (almost a certainty, since he is due a $500K roster bonus in addition to a $4.5M salary this year). While McCoy was adequate at the stripe last year, they have forever longed for a true short-yardage RB who could pound the ball. With Barber, they'd get that, and a guy who could potentially carry the load should McCoy go down (for the Eagles, the "load" is usually only 10-12 carries per game anyway). There have been a few names tossed around (Ronnie Brown being the latest), but Barber may make the most sense of the bunch. Add on the fact that he comes from a division rival, and the value is even greater. Thoughts?
BearBroncos
If I were an Eagles fan, I'd hope they would shoot for a Brown over a Barber. Dunno... Maybe it's just the Dallas stink on him but I honestly would prefer Brown in a backup roll.
Avernus
I really wouldn't want Barber....Brown is a better fit due to his ability to catch the ball...
i_am_the_swammi
I really wouldn't want Barber....Brown is a better fit due to his ability to catch the ball... Barber is certainly adept at pass-catching....in 2007, he had 44 catches, and in 2008, 52 catches. Brown never caught more than 39 in any season, even when he was healthy and started 13, 14 & 16 games. Not sure I'd put "pass-catching" as a check mark in Brown's favor. Barbers strength was never catching, but he was in an offense that threw to a RB while Brown can catch probably better but was in an offense that doesn't really throw to the RB.... the Cowboys picked up..Felix Jones because of his ability to catch the ball out the backfield - not as a replacement, but to expand the offense in that direction because Barber was the physical back... and Barber hasn't been the same since that big year, I'd rather have a RB that I felt didn't wear himself down by week 8 with a bruising style... Avernus
How well can Vick catch? Cuz a little wildcat with Brown would keep defenses busy with Brown under center and DeJax, Maclin, and Vick out wide. exactly what I was thinking and Vick probably can't catch that well, but all he has to do is catch a lateral pass or take a pitch from brown when he drops back... Brown is an ideal fit for this offense for so many reasons...

Avernus
If McCoy has any passing/QB ability at all, Brown would be a great mentor to him, then you'd have Vick and McCoy doing the double-wildcat for 4-5 years. I believe he offers that ability, but not like Brown....Westbrook offered it though...
The Wolf
Add in Ronnie Brown and the Wildcat and the Eagles may just have the most entertaining - and explosive - offense in the NFL.

tazinib1
I'm not a big fan of the wildcat. I would much rather see a Darren Sproles type RB in Philly than Ronnie Brown.
byron2112
What are they paying Leonard Weaver all that jack for if he's not the designated banger for that offense? What makes him potentially special as a FB(when he can stay out of the hot tub) is that he can catch real well and make plays with the rock in his hands... General Itals
If I'm looking to pick up a third down/short yardage back, I go Barber. He is the superior pass receiver(Sorry, Avernus, but it was one of his strengths at Minnesota) and picks up the blitz extremely well. If I'm looking for a guy to complete with McCoy, to push him and spell him for a significant amount of time, I probably go with Brown. I know, let's let Ronnie Brown throw pitches to Michael Vick. CHAMPIONSHIP! It would seem to be a downgrade from just having Vick back there. And for those who hope to see Brown pitch out to Vick (not including you in this group), I don't see the time to install that offense, nor do I believe the Eagles will want Vick exposed to more hits than he is right now. They need to keep Vick healthy. W/o Vick the Eagles are nothing. Edited July 7, 2011 by Ditkaless Wonders

I highly disagree with that....it really depends on if the OL can improve on pass blocking when a pocket passer is back there....Vick keeps the defense honest so they can't blitz.... if the OL pretends to know how to pass block as a unit, there is some good talent to work with so I think your comment is off base.. Maybe the other 31 teams in the NFL should maintain the lockout. It's pretty obvious that no other team stands a chance against the Eagles this season. I know your bored with the Broncos lack of giving you anything to chat about. it must be difficult after the last decade of meaningless football. Its OK. Hang in there, and keep your head up: I have a feeling Moreno may play as many as 8 or 9 games this year!
