Clubfoothead
I'm thinking a mint/strawberry lemonade?
bpwallace49
Actually my wife made an amazing watermelon lemonade by pureeing watermelon in a blender and then straining out the chunks, and adding it to fresh squeezed lemonade. Kinda like making "watermelon water" to mix with the lemon juice, sugar and ice. Garnish with a few frozen chunks of watermelon (like ice cubes)
delusions of grandeur
water, lemon juice, sugar, ice you are welcome Yes, but this is your chance to get really creative! Since this is a function with kids involved, I say give them what they want: sugar, and lots of it. To achieve this, you'll need to switch the parts of sugar to water... Once you've filled the pitcher with sugar, next heat up the water to a scalding temperature, and add just enough to give it a syrup consistency and stir. Next, you're going to want to go light on the lemon, because honestly, what kid likes lemons? Yuck. If anything I might add in a little bit of carbonated water to trick them into thinking it's a soda. But just like the water, not too much or you will lose the syruppy sugar character that is the centerpiece of this fine craft lemonaded beverage. Finally, the presentation. The beverage will be too think for ice, so you're going to need to keep it warm prior to the competition. This might not seem like the most desireable presentation, but trust me, once the kids get the sugar in their veins, they couldn't care less if you served it to them in a boot (another idea if you want to get really creative with this). Bottom line, have fun with it, and remember what you're trying to achieve here: to get those crazy little devils so hopped up on sugar, that they go wild and crash when you get home. Good luck! Clubfoothead
We had a house full of people so we just went and judged, which might have been more fun anyways. Cleaner for sure. The oldest tried the watermelon lemonade second and put her marble in their cup immediately. She said there couldn't be a better one. I purchased 8 tickets and voted once for all 8 kids in the contest. There was a standard lemonade that was a perfect mix of sweet and sour. All the belnds were represented and tasted great. No pineapple lemonade though. I think we've got an idea for next year.

Garnish with a few frozen chunks of watermelon (like ice cubes) I made this yesterday and it was quite good....one thing to remember though is to back off the simple syrup (sugar-water) a bit relative to your basic lemonade recipe since you're adding sweetness with the watermelon. Watermelon makes so many things taste better. Try adding it to margaritas. In fact, I learned one summer that it makes a perfectly balanced, intentionally low-octane margarita (which is a nice thing to have around if you're planning on drinking them by the pool all day long and don't want to pass out before sun-down. Essentially, like Azz eludes to, back off a bit on the simple syrup and add a ton of watermelon juice. What you end up with is a drink that is neither too sweet, too sour, or diluted but with maybe half the booze of a typical margarita, so you can down them by the pint.
