Williams vs LeShoure

Recommended Posts

If you're picking 1.04 to 1.07 in a rookie draft, or even deciding which "sleeper" rookie back to take in the later rounds, then you might end up asking yourself Williams or LeShoure?

Williams: You have to assume that his drafting was in large part due to them admitting failure with Beanie Wells as a feature back, and obviously Hightower isn't the answer either. Williams has good speed and runs hard, but at only 212 with hammy issues, it may limit him from playing every down, so they should probably relegate goal-line or change-of-pace work to Hightower and Beanie, depending on if either is traded in a deal for a QB.

LeShoure: The more controversial of the 2 picks, mainly because of the controversial explosive, yet injury-prone back ahead of him. There's little doubt that LeShoure will be working the goal-line and short yardage for them, and appears to have great all-around game to carry the load if Best's injury woes continue, or if his fragility ends up landing him in a Reggie Bush/3rd down back sort of role...

But assuming a slightly reduced workload works to Best's advantage, are there going to be enough carries to go around, and particularly goal-line carries for a team that can air it out in the redzone?

It's tough for me to say which one I prefer as a purely-stash player, but until we see more from them, I tend to look at Williams as a better fit for a fantasy team with good RBS that just needs an occassional fill-in, while LeShoure could have far more upside, but also downside and inconsistency in his situation, and might be more of a swing for the fences sort of pick (and of course seems a must as a handcuff if you're relying on Best).

Thoughts on what you expect out of either of these guys, both now and in the future?

LeShoure for many of the reasons listed below.

I'm still amused by this mentality. They spent a pretty high draft pick on Beanie and do you honestly lay the lousy season on the shoulders of Beanie? Of course not. He didn't perform but he was also contending with a scoped knee. The season was lost for them so why damage your high prices RB and potentially damage his knee further when you can allow him to basically just stay in football shape.

I think the Williams acquisition was more telling of the reason why most 6+ round players normally do not work out. Hightower has shown some potential signs of brilliance but so did Slaton. And just like Slaton, the fumbles are just unacceptable in the NFL. I think the drafting of Williams spells more doom for Hightower than Beanie, but most of you know I'm an advocate for the young man.

LeShoure: The more controversial of the 2 picks, mainly because of the controversial explosive, yet injury-prone back ahead of him. Here I still like Felix in his new role. I think he will continue to get monster numbers. Of course, he will need to prove he can handle 15+ carries a game unlike he was able to do last season. He tired out fairly quickly but I'm fairly sure that will be resolved this year. LeShour, however, will play a big roll in this offense I feel. I think he will be their GL guy and get at least 5 TD's in his rookie year. That being said, I think Felix gets 10 TD's this year.

both could potentially be walking into some good offenses with some weapons

if stafford can stay healthy...they have megatron, best, pettigrew(another that needs to stay healthy) and titus young

if the cards get kolb...and he doesnt suck...they should be back to close to having a good offense....if that line can hold up and protect him

williams has a chance to steal the starting job.....leshoure could carry the full load should best go down for an extended period of time.....im guessing the lions would like to have best in the jcharles role....with leshoure being thomas jones.....its a tough call as to who would be more valuable right now in a redraft.....

its possible that zona becomes completely disenchanted with beanie....and williams has alot of value.....i see detroit wanting to use best and leshoure to compliment each other.....at the same time...williams and best both have injury history....
