WJW
Vote was 31 - 0 with Oakland abstaining. Go figure. Like ol' Al could even comprehend a deal of this scope.
lennykravitz2004
Funny to see D Smith go to ESPN live on air over NFL Network to give initial response to owner's ratifying.
WJW
NFLN reporting that player's conference call in an hour is NOT for a vote. It appears the spin is now that it's too "complicated" to re-certify the union quickly, which is required for the lockout to be lifted. EDIT: The lockout can be lifted with a ratification of the deal. Recertification of the union could happen after that.

delusions of grandeur
NFLN reporting that player's conference call in an hour is NOT for a vote. It appears the spin is now that it's too "complicated" to re-certify the union quickly, which is required for the lockout to be lifted. Hmmm? What I've read (though it may just be speculation) is that the players could report to facililities and decertify there, since it has to be done on paper. I dunno (though I'm pretty sure this is what held up the vote, as Goodell and De Smith reportedly talked it out to put them back to work tomorrow). But since it's a "global settlement" to settle everything at once, would this maybe allow players to at least come in and sign as a contingency to what they settle tonight? Players could show up for "voluntary" workouts starting on the 23rd, but the NFL calender year would NOT be able to start on the 27th (i.e. training camps and free agency) without a ratification of the deal by the players. FYI - Hall of Fame game is canceled.

Chief Dick
Sounds like the owners voted on something not yet agreed upon. This thing is far from over.
Jackass
Sounds like the owners voted on something not yet agreed upon. This thing is far from over. Yep. kind of like proposing an announcing a trade at the same time.
WJW
Sounds like the owners voted on something not yet agreed upon. This thing is far from over. There is no way the owner's team took a deal to them to vote on that was NOT agreed on by D.Smith and his team. No way! There will be a bunch of public posturing by some players so they can try to come across as the injured party here, but they will have a vote once they "review" the deal details. They have until Tuesday to hold a ratification vote.
Wolverines Fan
Per profootballtalk.com Take it for what it's worth. Report: De Smith tells player reps there is “no agreement” with NFL Posted by Mike Florio on July 21, 2011, 8:08 PM EDT To put a twist on T.O.’s catch phrase, get your cold water ready. After several days in which it looked like the NFLPA* was making an eleventh-hour power play against the league, it could be that the league is trying to make a twelfth-hour power play against the NFLPA*. And it looks like it won’t work. On the heels of an ominous e-mail that was directed by an unknown sender (likely Jeffrey Kessler) to unknown recipients (likely the board of player representatives), Jim Trotter of SI.com and ESPN’s Chris Mortensen have obtained a copy of the e-mail sent by NFLPA* executive director DeMaurice Smith to the board of player representatives. Here’s the full text, as Trotter posted on Twitter, with edits to make it more easily readable. “As you know the Owners have ratified their proposal to settle our differences,” the e-mail states. “It is my understanding they are forwarding it to us. As you may have heard, they apparently approved a supplemental revenue sharing proposal. Obviously, we have not been a part of those discussions. As you know from yesterday, issues that need to be collectively bargained remain open other issues such as workers compensation, economic issues and end of deal terms remain unresolved. There is no agreement between the NFL and the Players at this time. I look forward to our call tonight.” Gulp. Folks, there’s no way the NFLPA* will be approving the deal tonight or passing it along to the players for a vote. And once the league has to start canceling preseason weeks and not just one preseason game, real money is going to disappear — and the chances of getting a deal done will diminish. Ditkaless Wonders
Watching ESPN. They are reporting that the players have not even seen the proposal. They are then backing the players saying it is outrageous that the owners have not sent them the proposal, as if there is only one and the players lawyers don't have copies of the agreed upon document. The players are BSing the world and ESPN is accepting it since they are too stupid to understand how this process works. There are hundreds of copies of the document. The players knew the owners were goin into a ratifying vote and said nothing until the vote was taken. If there was no deal, or if they did not have a copy they would have said something knowing a vote was pending. This BS posutring is the players seeking a bite at the apple after the deal has been done. Had they not had a deal, and a copy thereof they would have said something. No, they wanted to see the vote and then restart negotiations. At this point, were I an owner, I would seek to dump any of their remaining SHAM WOW! at my facility into the street. I would begin hiring not scabs, or temporary replacement players, but rather my new team. Thee players, their reps, and their lawyers have pulled some unconscionable SHAM WOW! here. Chief Dick
I swear, if these idiots keep going down this stupid road, I'm done with the NFL. Training camp towns could end up getting hosed because camps will be at team facilities. Employees of the teams will be getting hosed because they rely on game day income, even if it's only preseason games lost. Fantasy football, merchandise companies, other vendors, etc. will get hosed because they can't sell products and keep their doors open. Meanwhile, America is reeling from unemployment. People are losing their houses. There are more kids on food programs in our cities. And these dipwads can't figure out how to split that much money. Screw 'em. delfamdelfam
Owners are violating union laws, they can't force the players to recertify and by doing this vote and demanding they recertify by Tuesday, It kinda seems like their almost forcing them to recertify which is against the law. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d820e...-to-player-reps
JUMbotron
On numerous occasions DeMaurice Smith has added fuel to the fire with his spitfire email rhetoric... it's like he doesn't think before hitting 'Send' on the iPhone. Throw in a few clumsy tweets from players and it creates panic. The players want to go to work. They'll get their end done. John Clayton said (paraphrasing) "97% of it is agreed upon, it's just the last 3% they have to hammer out."
