Hawks will not re-sign QB Hasselbeck

Yeah, In that that pretty muchs means they are going out for a player who could take the reins if Whitehurst fails. If they had kept Hass somehow, then I think they would have thrown the keys to Whitehurst and see if he could produce with Hass being a "reliable" stop gap. I think letting him fly the coop only means one thing.... Kolb, Orton etc which I think spells doom for any chance for Whitehurt being a starter for Seattle.

I think the kid either has the talent to start or doesn't ,, if he does it wouldn't matter if they kept Hass or brought in someone else the same goes for the other way around ,, they have already made up their mind about him ,,, you will not be seeing any BS like in SF with Alex Smith

with Hass being a "reliable" stop gap.

There will be other options for this. McNabb and Bulger among others, and that's not without the Bruce Gradowski/Sean Hill/Matt Moore tier of guys that float around every year. I don't see how their decision with Hasselback correlates in any way to their plans for Whitehurst.

Don't think so. Hass almost certainly wouldn't have re-signed as a backup. The 2011 season, or at least the first part of the 2011 season is to see if Whitehurst is the QB of the future. At least for the time being.

Makes it sound like they have simply accepted his suckiness. "Yeah, we know Tarvaris sucks, but we've come to terms with it."

reading your post ,,, looking at your avatar & thinking of who TJ sat behind the last couple of years

poor guy

Reports are that SEA has come to terms with Tavaris Jackson.

That's right. They know what they're getting into.

This signing of Jackson makes me sick....I would actually welcome a 1-15 season to get Luck next year.

Well, come to think of it, that may be their strategy...

1st guy: "Now, how can we tank the season while actually making it seem like we're trying to win games?"

"I've got it! We'll sign Tavaris Jackson to be our starting qb"

2nd guy: "That's crazy enough that it just may work"

They really think Whitehurst, TJ, and Leinart hold any potential??

Are they better at the QB position than last year? No.

Was Hass all that good in 2010 minus the New Orleans playoff game? No, he was downright bad most of the season.

With all the holes to fix, I have no problem with rebuilding. I would have been fine with keeping Hass also but it's not like he is a realistic QB to start in 2013. Start Whitehurst and rule him out as the QB of the future; go from there.

It looks like Hass decided to to re-sign with the Seahawks rather than the Seahawks making that decision.

yep - we are now one of the favorites in the Andrew Luck lottery

stay strong my Hawk brotha - last year was a mirage the best bet is to go 1-15 and draft Luck.

gonna have to suck it up this year - gonna be a long one.

AZ and STL battle it out for the big bad NFC West crown

I dont see how not resigning Hass will put them at 1-15. They did win the week 17 playoff game against the Rams (who everyone loves) with Whitehurst under center. And if it is Jackson, his numbers are much better than Hass's.

It all depends on who they bring in via FA. They have the 2nd most cap space so they will be spending some money real soon.

It's painful to say it with how much I like Hasselbeck, but I think both Jackson and Whitehurst might be better QB's at this point. Last year Matt had 12 TD's and 23 Turnovers. Really I would be surprised if Whitehurst or Jackson didn't do better than that. Still, a sad day in Seattle nonetheless. Best QB in Seahawks history, best leader in Seahawks history. Thanks for ten of the most exciting sports years I've ever seen in this city. Best of luck to him. I hope he can land the Minnesota gig. Tennessee might be okay. Ladies and gentlemen, I believe we have quarterback competition. Hugh Millen reminded me of a football truism today...."if you've got two quarterbacks, you've got none".

For the past three years or so I've been saying it's time to move on at QB, and that some horrible, horrible days were coming if we neglect the future of the QB position. Touchdown Jesus!
