matt770
3.017 million fully guaranteed for the 1 year of service Pretty sweet gig for an ex-con. I'm really happy for him, he gets to stay in NY where he already knows all the good nightclubs.
muck
One year deal is the PERFECT length of contract for him. That said, I was hoping he'd end up somewhere with a legitimate passing attack.
Avernus
oh man...the Jets retaliated because the Eagles were supposed to sign Burress yesterday apparently.... Eagles 1 Jets .

The Wolf
I like the fact that it is a one year deal. Am on record as saying that I do not think he will be a problem this year, as will most likely be on his best behavior. If he acts up, boom...gone following the season. If he lights it up, money well spent. The million dollar question is what he has in the tank. After being gone so long, what can we expect from him? The lockout hurts Burress more than probably any other player currently on an NFL roster.

If Ryan weren't so in love with himself and didn't want to show the whole world what a genius he was, I'd put money on Cotchery flat out taking the starting WR spot straight up against Burress. osu1322
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_...?urn=nfl-wp4260 There is the link if anyone wants to read more... Yeah this is a great move considering the Jets didn't get Nnamdi Asomugha... They have plenty of cap room and this is a relatively low risk high reward sign... great move lets see how it plays out... BearBroncos
Lets get one thing streight. He is only a con because of the rediculious gun laws in NY. If he had pulled the same thing in Dallas, they would have fined him and taken his ability to own a gun away.
BearBroncos
Two places you DON't want to be caught carrying a gund at... Chicago and NY. Both, even if your a law abiding citizen (less carrying a weapon illegal) would automatically consider you a SUPER villian.

I bet you that he's going to jail in most jurisdictions - and he should.

If you want to have a gun , fine get a permit to have one at home . Or get one to carry it, if you can. But don't call illegal gun possesion ridiculous, especially if you don't live here. There is zero tolerance , and I like it that way, when you move here you can lobby for whatever laws you like. If you don't get shot on the way to the polls. He was a bone head who carried a gun and then popped a cap in his own sorry self. And not knowing the law and then failure to comply with that law is not a defensible position. Don't blame NY. Blame Burress. He created his own pile of #### that he fell head first into.

Your right on many levels, but the law is flawed in so many ways it's rediculious. Many players are CCW carriers (in the states that allow that is) because of the fact that these guys are targets are a regular basis. I don't fault him for carrying and I also defend his right to carry for protection. Him getting arrested for possession is in a sense, jeopardizing his second amendment rights. Him shooting himself if nothing more than he being an idiot. Proper training could have prevented that. Sorry, not intending to derail. This discussion is going dow the road of more political. BearBroncos
Ridiculous? The guy discharged a firearm in a crowded nightclub. I bet you that he's going to jail in most jurisdictions - and he should. For that length of time, hardly. For discharging a firearam in a public place, he absolutley should have been charged. But not allowing himself to legally carry to defend himself is another topic. I know there is a ton of anti gun activist, but as you might have figured, I'm not and defend his right to carry legally. He wasn't even afforded the opportunity to legally carry because the states laws goes against everything the constitution stands for. Again, didn't mean to derail and if we want to continue this debate, I'd love to but I would think the mods would prefer we take this to the Tailgate section? Edited to add notes. Cotch is a capable WR2, putting up respectable numbers (2 80-catch seasons) when given the opportunity. The Jets did need some more depth and a big target, and a one year flyer of this nature works for me. Low risk, high reward.

He wasn't even afforded the opportunity to legally carry because the states laws goes against everything the constitution stands for. Well, even in Texas, a properly licensed Burress would have broken the law for carrying into a nightclub. Burress: 1) carried a pistol illegally; 2) in a place in which it was illegal to carry even if he had a permit; 3) illegally discharged it in a public place; and 4) shot himself. Nice Second Amendment poster child you have there.
